I named my girls normal names but I did not normal spellings. I did it based on how my parents spelled my very normal name. And then I had a boy and he got the name Lucas. Pretty normal I think and I guess he just can’t play travel ball now since his name is not brayden.

I wasn't maniacal when it came to naming my daughters. But my ONE unwavering demand was that the name be a "classic" name that will always be considered normal from the time they are 1 to 99. No stupid current "fad" names (which unfortunately, I have. Though it is not one of the worst). No normal name with a "unique" spelling. No classic "southern" name from a movie which no one today names their child.

Fortunately, we named ours after family members with names that are every bit as normal today as they were 400+ years ago. No one is ever going to look at the resume of one of my children and think: "Is she a stripper or hairdresser"? Or does she come from a trashy family?

One of the most ridiculous I've seen is a girl named "Gene". Sorry, pronounced "Ja ne". She was not a big fan of mine when I told her "You can tell me a hundred times how you want me to pronounce your name. But your name is Gene!"

I worked at a home improvement store a long time ago and a dude said he wanted to name his daughter after the color he picked for her room.

It was Tequila.

I always wonder what strip club she ended up dancing at

pronounced "Ja ne".

So checking out at the HEB the other day, the name tag said Jane. And I said "how are you doing today, Jane?" She looked at me and said "it's Ja-nay." I laughed and said, "no it's not." But I think she was serious.

Plenty of names that were common 100 years ago are still used today.

Here are the most common names from 1920. You don't have to name your daughter Beatrice for it to be a classic name

That a whole other issue. Fad names.

I had another employee that had 4 kids. 3 boys and a girl. All with normal names, and spelled normally. Their dad was one of these dudes with a very dry sense of humor. They were all talking about their names and how the came to them. Named after family members, godfathers, etc. Got to the youngest boy, and he asked "Where did y'all get my name?". His dad immediately said "From Beverly Hills 90210". Kids name was Dylan.

You think when they are given a "stage name" at birth they pick something "normal" as their stage name when stripping?

"And next up on stage 1, we have everyone's favorite...Melissa."

My daughter was named after a girl on the tv show 24. We just liked the name but it's not a family name or anything

No, we just happened to be watching that show when my wife was like 6 months pregnant and we were trying to choose a girl name. We both decided we like the name of a character on the show.

Beaux instead of Bo. They're hellbent on that Cajun French shite.

Kenzley, Kinzley, Kensley. It's Kinsley.

That's just the surface.
