One of my best friends had exhaust that sounded like a jet engine when we were in college.

I consider myself a freedom loving person but I'd love to see a $500 fine given for vehicles that produce over a certain decibel. Nothing like having to stop a conversation while your dumbass passes though.

Funny, I was at an Exxon the other day when a youngish lad driving a (I kid you not) lavender/purplish firebird or Transam pulled up. Looked new. Kid was dressed like Vanilla Ice. The engine was obnoxiously loud. Obviously he’d modified it. But why? It didn’t sound good. Just annoying. It wasn’t racy sounding or deep and throaty like a classic hot rod. This thing had more rattle than a chatter bait.
I know the stock exhaust probably sounded fine. Why would someone want the engine to rattle and whine?

What pisses me of is the Harley guys get a pass for their straight pipes while a only moderately loud car will be ticketed.

The funny thing is the average really loud diesel truck isn't any faster than the average 6 cylinder sedan. The spool up time is also ridiculous. You hear them floor it and 10 seconds later the truck responds. You can be big or you can be quick but not both unless you spend a fortune.

Modifying your exhaust to make it louder is illegal in LA , but it’s never enforced.

Not much bothers me about people, maybe 5% of the topics people bring up about others on this site. However, this one bothers me. Especially certain situations like family gatherings (or at a park) when someone does that on a little road nearby.
