backing into a parking space is much safer. Pull forward to exit. Otherwise you pull out blind into the travel lane. Always pull through or back in.

90% of parking lot collisions happen while backing into a fixed object. While backing only amounts to 4% of total driving. It is safer to back into a spot upon arrival and being able to drive forward to leave.

I used to think the same thing but I get it now.
You are at risk in some cases of having another truck park on the adjacent isle and it makes backing out a bitch. Backing in really does help in leaving easier.

The statistical case for backing in is pretty solid. The problem, in my mind, is that some people suck at driving in reverse. It is inherently more difficult.
You can criticize these people, and I'm right there with you on that point, but the fact is that they exist. I don't want them backing into my vehicle based on some statistical theory.
Let people park as they see fit for a given location / situation.
