Dropped iPhone 13 Pro Max overboard

at marina in Biloxi yesterday afternoon at 4:45 pm. Checked my Apple Care+ coverage when I got home and found it didn’t cover theft or loss of phone. I paid a young guy at the marina to dive down in the brackish water/muddy bottom to search for it 18 hours later, and he found it. It was still powered on, receiving texts and emails. I dried it off and immediately got a phone call. Went ahead and contacted Apple, and they are replacing it. Can’t believe it was submerged for 18 hours in salt water and mud, and still worked perfectly.

maybe apple will pay to for your story?

That's what sucks about Apple care. Go with your carriers warranty and you can run over it with your car when you want a new one.

I dropped mine once at the kayak launch in grand isle by the Wildlife and fisheries building. It was in a foot of water all day. I assumed I left it in the truck got back to truck and it wasn't there. Took about an hour to find it. Still worked.

In 2001 I dropped my brick Nokia 5150 into a deep fryer. It took me a bit to fish it out. The case melted but the phone was ringing. I got a new case and used the phone for months later.

Yeah, if I hadn’t found it, I would have been screwed.

IP68 rating.
By their own estimates, your phone should not have survived.

Apple products are FAR superior to other manufacturers…and they have a nice solid feel.
I can’t believe anyone other than poors use android devices.

Did you have a box around the phone?

Phones have been waterproof for years. You didn't know this? And congrats for paying hundreds of dollars to find a cheap phone.

Sounds like you didn't find it.

The kid that found it said it was sticking straight up in the mud. The only thing I can figure is the mud sealed the connector opening on the bottom and didn’t let much water in. I did get a liquid notification when I plugged it into the lightening cord, advising me to let it dry out completely before it will charge.

FYI as someone who used to sell phones, plans, phone insurance etc. Provider insurance is crap compared to the full coverage Apple Care.
