I had a guy say he was hungry yesterday and asked if I would buy him some food at Mcdonalds. I was in a hurry so I said here is $1.10, you should be able to get something off the dollar menu. Instead of walking in Mcdonalds, he walked right past it. Pissed me off.

You and your feelings are the problem.

I drive it to the midcity area daily. I grew up in that area and it’s definitely depressing seeing what it looks now vs the late 80’s and even into the 90’s.

I’m hoping the bug Amazon center will help improve some of that area

Government road diet is going to change everything

Don't you live in Oakland? That's like one giant Florida Blvd

The city and citizenry should do something about it. Expand the improvements from Government Street over to Florida.

It can’t get worse.

Got to invest in and incentive the outcomes we are seeking.

A thriving commercial and industrial light Florida Blvd is essential to the city.

BR was a lot nicer in the 80s. There were some hood areas but they were pretty isolated and easy to avoid.

Broadmoor mall has a lot of nice new commercial buildings. So there is hope.

What is interesting is that going down government there are areas that has improved over the years, but Florida just continued to decline.

The Amazon thing should help the area around Cortana. But the area closer to downtown needs something else to fix it. IDK what.

Broadmoor as a neighborhood is hanging on very well. They did well with the redevelopment of the old Broadmoor theater and shopping center. But there's a lot on that stretch farther out towards O'Neal that's pure junk.

Then you cross under the interstate and downtown looks like Disney World by comparison.

What, they're molesting children downtown now?

They probably won't let him in.

I remember the nice places along that corridor. Catfish House, Sonny’s BQ(still there), that little Polynesian restaurant, Putt Putt, Cortana Mall (of course) Bon March’s’ and the two cinemas, Steak and Ale, the donut place on Florida @ Lobdell, and the nightclubs in the Wooddale and Melrose East areas.

It’s sad I know I spend plenty of time and money at the old Godchaux’s right there you buy clothes, tires and lawnmowers with 90 days same as cash with their credit card.

What’s been more surprising to me is the area from Cortana east to O’Neal. It looks like a tornado went through there and the business owners just left everything as-is and abandoned the area.

Maybe my memory is rose-tinted, but it seems that area was the “nice part” of Florida Blvd. when I was in high school in the 80s.

Forced busing for the schools caused a lot of white flight. It really took off in the late 80s and into the early 90s.

Katrina and the mass migration afterward.
