Drago’s considering Constitution Avenue spot for Baton Rouge restaurant

LINK

Drago’s Seafood is eyeing a potential Baton Rouge location on Constitution Avenue near the corner of College Drive and Interstate 10.

A restaurant representative has submitted a rezoning request for a 13,600-square-foot building—formerly home to a music and entertainment store—between a Chili’s restaurant and Hampton Inn at 4580 Constitution Ave.

The request, which will go before the city-parish planning commission March 18, is to rezone the property to allow for alcohol sales and restaurant use, according to the meeting agenda.

Why did Ruth's Chris and Drago's consider Constitution Avenue over Perkins, Bluebonnet, Corporate, Jefferson, Government, etc.? Does the additional visibility on I-10 offset the sort of dead end aspect of that street? Or do they go after the same market as the nearby hotels?

FYE (I think?)

Shitty location all around. But I guess people could spill out of Drago's and walk to Penthouse

I honestly have no idea - but I've always wondered if they do more business than Sullivan's across the interstate or Fleming's down Corporate. Are those restaurants comparable? (Honest question)

Ruth's is better than Sullivan's and is always packed when we've gone.

Flemings is garbage. You pay for the service at these places, and their service is awful.

I think it's a better location than Ruth's Chris. But it's still weird to me that it's not on Corporate or Jefferson.

One of the worst intersections in Baton Rouge. Constitution backs up for about a mile at College. You think they'd do a little scouting.

That was my first thought.

This is from google maps

[/img]

You have the hampton inn there, but you would think they would pick a location with more consistent traffic.

[/img]

I know the interstate has a lot of traffic, but people passing through on the interstate will stop at a Chilis because it's a chain and people will go to places they are familiar with. A lot of people, who are not familiar with dragos (people passing through from out of state) isn't going to look and say "look, a place called dragos. Never heard of it. Want to go eat there?".

There will be a line of cars idling on Constitution right in front of Drago's every day from 3-7 pm.

They are probably hoping to attract that I10 traffic who recognize the name from New Orleans.

While I believe Ruth's does more overall anyway, Ruth's is smaller in size than Sullivans so it takes less people to make it feel packed.

Ruth's is better than both. Ruth's is also packed to the gills pretty much every weekend

This location for Dragos will be fine. They will make their money on the dinner crowd, which doesn't have traffic then
