Dr. Birx says there is no ventilator or ICU shortage in NYC

LINK
Sorry for the link being a partisan twitter account, but the video is straight from Birx at the briefing
So, we are being told by cuomo, Birx, and other authorities that there is enough supply, yet nurses and reporters are saturating social media with “horror stories” from Nola and NY hospitals.
Somebody was on here earlier saying Nola hospitals already picking and choosing who to give a ventilator to.
Who is telling the truth?

The horror stories are always going to get more interest than the “all is well” stories.

As with most things, the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle.

Oh boy, this news will piss the Democrats and their media off big time.
No wonder the influx of leftist idiots now complaining we are getting test results back.
Next, we will all ignore mortality rates, as well as demographics of those who passed.
This isn't turning out like they were hoping, so now we have to stretch it out and hope more Democrat leaders keep shutting their areas down for at least a month.

Probably not anyone on social media.
I have a nurse friend and she is using this as an opportunity to let everyone on Facebook know how important she is and how dire the situation is. In a county with a total of 1 case/1 death.

There is no shortage of anything in NYC.

The average age in NYC is much lower than that of other places. People don't retire there. Movers and shakers tend to be younger. It's a face that this is affecting the older folks worse than the under 60 people.
Median age: 34.2

She said there are plenty of ventilators in surrounding counties and there was no issue with shifting to support NYC.

Please send some extras to Detroit!

You're right, that's human nature and I would argue that we have an evolutionary disposition towards disaster. It serves survival to be cautious. We want to hear the story of the lion that's close to camp, not the guy that walked around and picked flowers all day.

Based on local news NYC is certainly not to the point of letting people die to free up ventilators.
However, they're already using a method of "doubling" 2 patients per ventilator in some cases-- I'm not a doctor and don't precisely understand. Seems everyone is quite concerned if the numbers of people needing them continues to grow.
That said, anything regarding a doctor-hospital-getting a response on an emergency line etc is quite a shite show here in many obvious ways.
Things like hours long winding lines of sick people waiting in the rain just to get tested and many more hours trying to get inside a hospital. People calling and being told the wait for a hospital bed will be over 36 hours on hallway cots/chairs.
I personally have 7 friends/acquaintances friends who are certain they have it -- sick to varying degrees with precise symptoms + close exposure to someone who tested positive. Only 1 has been able to get tested (positive) though 6 of them have tried to at least get tested.
Three have reached out to docotrs/hospital concerning medical attention with symptoms like 4 straight days of high fever, trouble breathing, severe coughing (including one who says they were coughing blood on occasion).
All have been told to stay at home and treat it themselves.
These are all seemingly healthy people in their 30s-40s though not really sure of precise health conditions and would guess they run the full range of health insurance coverage.
