I didn't do a neurosurgery rotation in PA school, but he was huge while I was there. Always thought he would retire at LSUHSC-S. Big loss

I deposed him once, came in 45 minutes late in a gold lame suit with gold lame bow tie.

A three year old girl had fallen from a second floor balcony and landed on her head (on concrete). The surgery lasted about 9 hours but he saved that childs life. One of those people that just has another gear.

The amount of rumors swirling around the med school as to why Ghali removed him from the head of NS is ridiculous. Would love a straight answer about what transpired behind closed doors.

Regardless the cause, this is a huge loss for the Shreveport medical community.

Twenty-eight years ago on a cold Pittsburgh morning, an avuncular southern gentleman called me about an opportunity in Louisiana. I remember being flippant with him, saying, “Do you really want a Hindu boy and his Yankee wife in the Bible Belt?” That quintessential southern gentleman was John McDonald, chairman of surgery, who recruited me to Louisiana and had a life-changing impact on me.

From his goodbye letter.

Sad loss for the community and State likely the result of politics and the good 'ol boys network. Dr. Nanda was arguably one of the best neurosurgeons in the world. I've met with him dozens of times for my profession as he will be missed by his patients and colleagues. HUGE shoes to fill for whoever is appointed Chair.
