Probably because the cops there still beat the shite out of people. That would keep me in line.

So I’m heavily involved in construction, especially the traffic management side. I wish they had another set of signs. For example, on the freeway, 500’ prior to the taper, there is something like, “merge now” signs. And basically that’s where you should be moving into the lane. That way we could differentiate between the zippers and the a-holes.

And yet the signs indicating that a lane is going to end are place miles ahead of the actual merge point. That said, they are absolutely correct.

The way to make zipper merge work with idiots here is to merge both lanes to the middle, then shift the single file traffic to whichever side.
No one has right of way by position. It's only by taking turns, similar to a stop sign.
The best part about it is almost no one has seen it before, so no one has a stubborn opinion one way or the other about what to do.
LSU & DOTD had tested this in a few places about 10-12 years ago and got great results. I don't know why they never took it any further.

But in Louisiana, merging is tied to equity.
2 weeks to flatten the equity loss from merging!

I-10 / I -12 in Baton Rouge is about to become your worst nightmare due to impending construction. Find another route Now.

If I turn my blinker on and it’s been on for 5 Mississippi’s, I am going to slowly begin to merge. Whether you decide to let off the gas or not is your choice. I’m coming in the lane one way or another. Don’t be a piece of shite. I’m not asking you to come to a complete stop. I’m simply asking you politely to let off of the gas for 2 fricking seconds.

Sir, what the graph shows it’s literally the solution to the thing you hate. If everyone stays in two lanes until the end, no one can rush by. Studies show this is the most efficient and effective way.
People merging early are one ones who screw everything up.
That and the ones who block the lane then create a massive gap after they merge.
