DOTD changes up I-10 widening project. Less pain(?), more expense, more time.

state officials say they're tweaking the plan to add an extra westbound lane approaching the Mississippi River Bridge. The add-on will also mean extending the project by about a year.

The switch-up is expected to cost $50 million and will delay year-long lane closures between the split 10/110 split and Acadian Thruway, originally slated for early 2024, by another year.

What else would you have them say?

FWIW a standard amount of weather days are built into the contract time

I like how they’re making it easier for all of us to leave this place. Very altruistic of them tbh

it was stupid of them to think cutting down westbound I10 to one lane at the foot of the bridge wouldn't be a problem.

Westbound traffic through the entirety of Baton Rouge would be backed up every day.

I won't really have to drive that area too often when my youngest starts driving in a few months, but I'm sure it will make the whole city a parking lot.

I encourage them to add more lanes.

I figured construction would suck either way. But for the hell we go through we should see a major improvement.

So more lanes is good news to me.

I'm currently looking to buy a home and buying one that provides multiple routes around that clusterfrick is at the top of my wishlist.

So lane closures were originally scheduled to last a year but now two? Whoever wrote this article was not clear in many areas.

I don’t get it. The traffic always backs up Eastbound. Almost never Westbound. Of course, Westbound never comes down to 1 lane normally but the Eastbound traffic is going to extend to Texas. I work in Brusly but live in EBR. I don’t see how this is going to be feasible for me for 2+ (?) years.

Best advice.

Get the hell out of that shithole state. I love Louisiana bc it's home. That said, the politicians there could frick up a good nut.

It's always amusing to me that the people on this board have this obsession with Cali politics. Now that I've been here for about 5 years, I can say this state is run 1000x better than Louisiana.

Eta - and Cali politicians haven't been the brightest bunch. Tells you how shitty Louisiana politicians are.
