Absolutely jail time. That should be a given. That’s why I didn’t even mention it. 30 days is too lenient. Make it 3 months. Hopefully they lose their job and have to start from a shitty job to get back on track. Teach lessons and make examples. Anyone that thinks it’s wrong never had a loved one lost due to drunk driving or condones drunk driving.

Yep, well said. Those who don't view it as a big deal, haven't been personally impacted by it.

People who drink and drive are the scum of the Earth…. I know becuase i did it countless times in my teens and twenties; it was a scummy, trashy thing to do and it’s only becuase of luck and good fortune that i never caused anyhting like this to happen.. if i had, i would have deserved everything i got.

My mom's cousin was killed the same way. In his work truck on a Monday morning. Good friend's fiance was killed by a woman who had like 3 prior DUIs and she is not in jail even after killing someone.

So frick drunk drivers.

My dad worked with their dad Ray Simmons for over 30 years. He's a devout Christian and a fantastic man.

If you can find it in your heart to donate to their GoFundMe please do.

This is just tragic. Their sister is on Twitter and is saying that their mom is starting to wake up and is asking about the kids. They haven't told her yet. I seriously can't imagine being in that elder sister's shoes right now.

I was coming to post this. She’s got to have a feeling — how can a husband/daughter hide that as far as emotionally?

Devastating.

My brother works with CLECO but didn’t know the dad. That go fund me has exploded.

Drink driver going the wrong way on I49

That's a big problem, injuring someone is horrible, they would have to go to jail.
Killing someone is grounds for the death penalty.

Driving home at the speed limit and harming no one and prison time seems extreme for something that could have potentially happened.

But then again, I'm old school.
Do a crime then do the time.

This family has an older son who was in an accident earlier this year. He’s recovering still but it’s been a long road for him and all of them .. and now this.

Too often, they come out relatively unscathed.

Then this happens:

quote:

Another incident occurred in Avoyelles Parish, 5 miles north of the incident, when a State Trooper was detouring vehicles off of I-49 southbound. An oncoming vehicle, driven by an 86-year-old man, struck the State Police unit. The trooper wasn't hurt, but the person in that oncoming vehicle died from that crash.
