People lie to get jobs, respect, women, attention, and other things all the time. People say they went to Harvard, have degrees they didn't get, played college ball, are a doctor or a pilot, beat up young bucks with soft hands in bars, have cousins who work in ice cream shops, and countless other things.
This Stolen Valor youtube video stuff is nothing more than a cry for attention. Why do they need to record it and put it on youtube instead of embarassing the guy and reporting him to authorities?
Eventually stuff like this happens:

Fake Seal guy was hammered on Bourbon. Probably never thought these guys would show up at his job.
I guarantee everyone he worked with thought he was a Seal too. How embarrassing.

To correct the lie that is being told. There is no telling who he told this lie to, the fasted way to let everyone know who he really is is through YouTube or social media.

This wasn't just one drunken night on Bourbon St. The guy had a history of bragging and when you do stuff like that someone is going to fact check you. When Shipley caught wind of it he came to NOLA specifically to meet this man. And they showed up at his work because the guy told them to come to his work.

Only reason I would do it would be to get laid, I've told women all kinds of lies to get in their pants and don't plan on stopping and I could care less if that dopey Shipley called me out on it.

There's no doubt about that. That's why I said everyone at his job probably thought he was a Seal. Also, I think the fact that he permanently tattooed it on his body is more proof. This dude has been using this line for a long time and, because of his size, most people probably assumed it's true.
He told them to come to his job because he thought it would lend credibility to his claim, and he was drunk...I think it's hysterical that they took him up on it. A bit cringeworthy to watch.

One of the most awkward experiences of my life was, this girl who I knew asked me to be her date for some VFW group thing. I go, and I had to sit with the wives when they had their meeting since I had never served. I kept having old WW2 and Korean and Vietnam vets come up to me thinking I was the vet and she was my date, and it was so embarrassing to try and explain that I didn't join.
One guy there was my old JROTC leader and he remembered me and said "You should be an officer by now what happened? I know you went to LSU". Had to explain I went, but did not finish, my aviator dream squashed with only a PP on a single engine Cessna to show for that dream.
I just felt like such a loser for not serving and it was so demasculating, being with a girl who served in Iraq and Afghanistan while I played X-box and smoked pot at home in the aughts.
They were nice about it, but it was just an odd place for me.

It seems to be more for attention grabbing for the guys busting people for stolen valor than embarassing the guy who is stealing valor. Did you read the article I posted? This stolen valor social media fad leads to embarassment for veterans as well.

Things quickly escalated.
"What is your problem?" Ford asked.
The officer reiterated his demand.
Fed up, Ford told the officer to leave him alone in terms that contained an expletive.
That's when the officer started shouting, Ford said.
"You don't know where you went to boot camp," the officer said, according to Ford. "You aren't a Marine."
Ford said the soldier joined in, shouting: "Stolen Valor! This man is a fake!"
