Dog traits make it repugnant to farm them as cattle...

Their social nature and the fact that they have evolved to be in tune with human emotion and facial expressions makes them poor choices ethically to be raised for meat. I work with a Vietnamese guy who mocks our love of dogs. Who is right? Has anyone tried dog meat? Would you recommend it?

I'm sorry, when I'm at Fenway or Wrigley I am having a goddam hot dog.

So you're only herd animals should be used for meat due to the social aspect of those animals?
What kind of animals do you think humans are?

Neither. They have their cultural norms and we have ours.

No really and he makes animal noises when he eats. He will put a whole wing in his mouth and take out a completely clean bone. I wouldn't put it past him to eat anything really.

Fair enough. Still though... Dogs > Cows.

Dogs got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I understand the cultural relativism angle but Im saying that dogs are capable of having a more meaningful existence than cows or chickens.

Dogs sometimes eat people. I've never herd of a cow eating an old woman who was trying to feed them.

When the SHTF you'll be grateful to eat kittens.
Just sayin'

The same Vietnamese guy always talks about when the SHTF, how he will just focus on eating people. There will be no shortage.

Our whole concept of animal rights and what is a "good" animal is stupid.

I have eaten dog meat (once)--but I also lived in Taiwan and China for over 3 years (20 years ago).

I would have no trouble trying it.

I'm pretty sure in Thailand, it's culturally acceptable to eat your pet after it dies of natural causes

Good point, but the taste of bacon overrides all other considerations.

A pig is a farm animal, they exist only to eat, are not as smart as dogs, their urine will have a yard smelling like a barn yard in a short time, they have razor sharp tusks and will destroy a house eating anything it can if they are allowed to get hungry. There are pig shelters all over the country over run with pigs given to them by people that were conned into believing a pig was great pet and just like a dog.
