Larry Benoit is considered one of the very best dog trainers in Baton Rouge.

If you have access to deer legs you don’t need a trainer. Drag the leg in a straight line let dog find it and reward dog and go nuts when he does. Repeat and then make the drag slightly more difficult over time

I’m not lying when I say it takes only this and maybe a few weeks to get it down. It’s the easiest dog training to do

I don’t think labs are known as great tracking dogs.

You.

1) Shoot deer behind the shoulder so it hopefully runs off.

2) Take dog to the spot the deer was at when you shot it. Dog will look for the deer.

3) Praise the shite out of the dog when he gets to the deer.

That's it. Nothing more to it.

Labs are great anything dogs. If it involves chasing chasing something, they are game.

I used Larry Benoit. It was a six week course. It was a group class but he does individual classes also. I think you can even leave your pup with him if you don’t have time or don’t feel like doing the one night a week. He was recommended by my vet. He does his classes in denham. He only allows a certain number of dogs in each class.

This is his information

Coming from someone who trains dogs on the side (I also train human tracking, not deer) you are correct. It’s the easiest thing to do if your communication is on point with the dog. And very rewarding

I agree. Beagles or Fox hounds will track them by instinct. No training required, just opportunity.
Labs are one of easiest dogs, IMO, to train to Retrieve.
If a Lab were to track, are you going to run with them? I don't think they open on scent as would a hound. So if they chased after the deer, you would lose sight very quickly.
