Dog health question

Young mutt female. Spayed. No prior health problems. About 4 years old. Mid-sized dog. Suddenly obsessed with drinking water after eating & vomiting up the absorbent paper left out by my son that they keep with gross microwavable bacon a few days back. Didn't know she had ate it until she vomited it up. Had diarrhea a couple days. Now stools back to normal but huge increase in thirst. Vet appt made today but have to wait several days. Any tips or advice? She eats fresh pet 2x a day. No dry kibble. No human food. Thx.

Is she eating normally?
Is she just drinking more because it’s hot outside?

Let her outside to eat some grass if you have it, or at least see if she does/tries to.
Dogs will instinctively eat grass if their stomach is bothering them, it actually works fairly well to settle their stomachs which is why they've evolved to do so. At the very least it's a sign to their humans that they are having digestive issues or feel sick.
I wouldn't worry about anything serious now, she's probably just dehydrated from the diarrhea. Let her drink as much water as she needs and keep her outside for a while.
I'm not a vet, but someone that's had many dogs throughout my entire existence

Normal appetite. Doesn't act like she's uncomfortable at all. Just thirsty. Thx.

I googled it,..
Since she's eating and pooping normally, maybe it's just the absorbent material making her temporarily thirsty?

What if my dog eats the absorbent meat pad?
Absorbent Pads Can Be Dangerous for Dogs While nothing in the absorbent meat pads is toxic, the pads can still cause a problem if swallowed.
In some dogs, the pad may pass right through and not cause a problem. However, in other dogs, the pad can be stuck in the intestines and create a blockage.

Interesting. She vomited up the paper in its entirety. Going to keep a close eye on her between now and vet appointment. Actually walking her along with my other dog right now and she is getting along fine.

Sounds like OP said she vomited it out though.
I would think the signs he's seeing now are simply recovering from diarrhea and vomiting.
Those absorbent pads aren't anything like a diaper that would contain gel that broke loose and get stuck in the digestive tract (had a dog that did that).
If the dog is eating and pooping normally, there's really nothing much to worry about. Let her eat and poop and drink, let her out to eat some grass if she needs it. Grass is nature's cure to many dog digestive ailments

as long as shes keeping water/food down and shitting normally i think she'll be ok. at least i think that would mean there's no further blockage.
i had a beagle that liked to eat the paper they package chicken on. he would struggle to drink water without vomiting and show signs of abdominal discomfort. a round of subcutaneous fluids at the vet and it would eventually prairie dog out enough to pull.
that same dog did drink water non-stop due to cushing's disease but that comes with hair loss and other symptoms. i think your girl was prob just a little dehydrated from the diarrhea/ it was hot as hell today

Male dog 7 years old started drinking water like crazy about 5 weeks ago. Brought him in, was a Saturday and he was 100+ lbs so they didn’t have the staff on site to get him x-rayed, so it was figured maybe (hopefully) bladder stones. Bloodwork was pretty much fine. Got him some meds, he seemed alright for a couple weeks, then started drinking heavy again and no real appetite. Brought him back in Tuesday and his blood work was off the charts and X-rays were not good.
We put him down Wednesday, cancer. Godspeed.

Bring to vet just in case
Bacon grease and fabric is one way people kill coyotes in savage fashion. Paper towels aren’t mattress innards but still.

For future issues, plain non fat greek yogurt will settle their stomachs

You made an appointment but have to wait days?
Probably an acute case of pancreatitis. Dogs can get it easily by getting into high fat foods. Diarrhea is a common side effect too and hydration is important.

That was my 1st thought. If no better by tomorrow re the symptoms or any new ones, I might be calling around to ask if we can be fit in anywhere.

Congrats on being a first time dog owner. Your dog will be fine. You will go through stuff like this.

Been away. Thanks again everyone. Couple more nuggets discovered since last post. My folks visiting for son's graduation. My dog snuck an entire package of their Pupperonis which she never eats. Her crap was reddish orange. Her thirst subsided this evening. Still doing the vet Thursday but can see in her eyes she's feeling better.
