Had a cat that did that. I thought one of her eyes was missing. Called the vet after hours and he met us at his office. I was totally freaked. It was that extra lid. Great vet, didn't even charge us. He office was completely flooded out, corner of Ponderosa and Old Hammond Hwy. So sad.

A seizure might be a good guess. How old is the dog?

is it a cocker spaniel? we had to have surgery on ours to remove third eyelids

Ahh that did seem to last a while with that dog. Definitely not just waking up. It could be anything ocular related or possibly a small seizure. Going to the vet is the right thing - keep us posted.

vet said after exam, xrays and bloodwork that its epilepsy. Got him on a med so see how it plays itself out. He's half basset hound and half collie. Good thing my vet isn't obsessed with money so it only cost $97.

I think Collies are prone to epilepsy. I base that solely on the fact that we had a collie with epilepsy when I was younger. Anyway, glad you got him on some meds. One of our dogs is on phenobarbital and zonisamide for his seizures. They have their side effects of course, but we've found the right balance of meds and he hasn't had a seizure in over a year now. Our dog did the same thing once. Vet said it was probably a seizure, but didn't want to start any mess unless it happened again. I'm surprised they started medicine for one time. Epilepsy is chronic.

It's just noncontageous bacterial pneumonia.

One thing I learned.. and thank God I never put him on any.. Collies are not supposed to be given any heartworm prevention meds. According to what my vet and other vets told me is there is a chemical that penetrates the blood brain barrier in Collies and will kill them and pretty quickly at that. There are also a few other breeds I forgot it will do it to as well. Fortunately my dog has always been an inside dog so no issues with mosquitoes.

Guy in Semmes right off 98 (Moffett Rd). My old vet off Cottage Hill would have probably been $150 or so, or I could take him to Rehm and get Rehmed by them charging probably $500 for the same dang thing.

If seizure, it was 10yrs & 2 mos back. Jack Russell came that way. He talks, but doesn't have 3 eyelids best I can tell.
