I'm team mom.

My mother and wife hit it off immediately. My mother had three boys, and my wife’s mother was kind of a … well, they weren’t close. I joke all the time that my wife is my parent’s favorite kid.

To the OP, I don’t have much to offer. I’ve seen incidents within my wife’s family when people hold grudges and say things they can’t take back. It’s not good.

She's your mother. Why didn't you tell your wife you are not asking your Mom to do that once a week for two days? That would have shut this down. That's a lot to ask especially since she lives out of town. Hire a sitter.
