My son doesn't have enough tape yet at 5 years old. Coaches want me to produce 6 hours of tape On him.

Some of them make you pay (as much as $500.00) to tryout.

I suppose it's like a social club fir the parents...probably less drama trying to join the racing team at the yacht club.

I asked my kids if they would rather play travel ball or go fishing and golf on the weekends. they picked fishing and golf. When I told the coach he thought i was kidding. Thank god i dont have to waste my weekends anymore.

Really depends on the group. Most of the 'academies' do tryouts in July/August. Some make every player tryout every year? Many groups may just invite players to play or to a tryout just to fill a position of need.

We played travel from the time my boy was 9 until he went to HS. Best of times, made some great friends and great memories! Would do it again in a sec!

As head coach of 11AA team and belong to a baseball organization , we did have tryouts. We only play tournaments and don’t travel as there are plenty enough tournaments in BR area. We only play two weekends a month, taking off Easter, spring break, Mother’s Day, and Memorial Day weekends. We started last weekend in February and go until state tournament in mid June. I can tell tournament ball is definitely better competition.
