In reference to your personal reality, time is an illusion. Ever slam the snooze button on your alarm clock and in those 5 minutes have an hour long dream?

Uh, yeah. That's the point. Time slows down, relatively, as velocity approaches the speed of light.
ETA: When the other poster said that 'time speeds up' with velocity approaching lightspeed, it is talking about space outside of the object travelling.

Time, why you punish me? Like a wave bashing into the shore, you wash away my dreams. Time, why you walk away? Like a friend with somewhere to go, you left me crying.
Can you teach me about tomorrow and all the pain and sorrow running free? Cause tomorrow's just another day. And I don't believe in time.
One of my favorite songs ever. So simple yet deep at the same time.

Time remains the same for an observer. Time slows for the person nearing the speed of light.

Immediate, local time is experienced the same way (ie you don't age and die going at lightspeed), but time outside of the object(s) moving that fast goes by much more quickly.
I think we both realize the concept and are just stating the same things from different...observation points.

another great question my understanding
Einstein showed that time depends on gravity: hence why we see the city of Boulder which sits a mile above sea level; at that altitude, time runs a little faster by 15.5 nanoseconds per day than those NIST atomic clocks in Paris and Washington.
So if time depends on gravity then how is a light year measured in space where gravity is not uniform?

I think it is all relative to our perspective.

Temporal experience within dreams v temporal length in 'reality' would be a fascinating thing to understand.

Time is like a clock in my heart
Touch we touch was the heat too much
I felt I lost you from the start
In time we could've been so much more
But time is precious I know
In time we could've been so much more
The time has nothing to show because
Time won't give me time
And time makes lovers feel
Like they've got something real
But you and me we know
We've got nothing but time
And time won't give me time
Won't give me time
So yeah.....it exists.

quote:This is not true. Time is a dimension or at least part of space dimensions. It's undeniable because time on earth (or near any greater gravity) is slower than where the satellites are orbiting the earth. That time difference is small but it must be accounted for which is why they do. Read up on Einstein's theory of Relativity to learn the difference between the measurement of time and the dimension of time or space-time.
Time is a means of measurement, same as our concepts of length, weight, and mass. The concept of it is a "human contruct," and the passage of time is defined by the movements of subatomic particles which remain structurally constant in themselves but are constantly forming and breaking bonds with other particles.

better understanding and thanks but
Bergson makes a distinction between what he refers to as real time and scientific time.
Real time is what we feel as an accumulation of memories. It is heterogeneous (can feel long or short) and contiguous.
Scientific time, on the other hand is a device for attempting to discover simultaneity of events.
Scientific time is not time as we experience it, hence the gap between experiential life and life as science attempts to define it.
what is find interesting, does real time vanishes or dramatically alters itself in nature when one is in a sleep state?

Settle down, Rust.
Also, three pages and none of you frickers posted this yet. You disgust me.

I don't know what the frick you're going on about, but think about this:
Everything ALWAYS moves at the speed of light. Always. If you are not moving through space, then you are moving at the speed of light through time. If you are moving at the speed of light through space, then you are not moving through time at all.

you are measuring the irregular movements of an object in space. This is not time. Time can feel fast or slow and is different for each person. We witness time as a series of hetetogemeous and contiguous memories, but is this is how we know there is time? What you are calling time is just a device for attempting to synchronize events. It has nothing to do with life as we are experiencing it.
