They don’t know any other way. Someone dies - post for likes. Something great - post for likes. Something gross - post for likes. They genuinely do not know how to celebrate/cope/mourn/etc. without immediately putting it out there for world consumption, attention and affirmation.

This reminds me of one year, there was this group that would tailgate next to us. This one college aged guy always stood out as the most awkward, douchiest person. He controlled the music which was always inappropriate to be played as loud as he did, and didn't even fit the vibe in the first place. Even his "friends" would complain to us. In any case, his parents came to a few tailgates and it was not uncommon for them to do the dirty dancing scene with him picking up his mom. It was sooooooo awkward and strange. No idea why anyone would be doing that with their mom, especially in public. Like it was more than once, like it was their thing they had to show off.
