What I don't understand is when people type like that on purpose, it requires more effort 2 be typpin lyk dis cuz u be hvin 2 keep dat autocorrek from fixin yo stuf

You forgot my use of "are" instead of "or." Fournette loves to do that.

I can't stand when people say "_____ and I" regardless of how it is used in the sentence.
Sometimes "_____ and me" is correct.
People would rather try to sound smart than actually learn basic grammar rules.

It's all over TV, Facebook ect. It seems like terrible grammar is normal.
I wonder if job interviewers take away points when an applicant says "I be ready to work for you, sir"
Facebook can be somewhat bad at times (especially when seeing some of the posts on lamebook.com) but if you want to see how truly pathetic it can be, check out an online game where there is text chat. It's like Noah Webster never lived and kids believe that spelling the same word multiple ways is a sign of intelligence.

Exactly. I had to go back and change autocorrects for that first line. Took way more effort than it would've had I done it properly

Young people have solved the two, to, too problem by simply typing 2 in all cases.
Posted on 3/9/16 at 9:10 am to Carson123987
Exactly. So not only are you trying to type like an idiot, you're actually exerting more energy into trying to look dumb. I don't get it.

It is very terrible. Here are my favorites I hear all the time:
my moms
that hurted
can I have my moneys
Can I axe you a question

The other day one of my students told me, "My head hurt." I asked him when? He looked at me incredulously. I asked again, "When did it hurt?" He never understood what I was talking about, but he dropped the subject.

It's specifically taught. I will never forget a story my brother told me.
He used to work as a waiter at Red Lobster when he was younger. It was the closest one to the city and the Amtrak line, so on the first of the month, the restaurant was flooded with low income welfare recipients.
One night, during endless shrimp season at the fine restaurant Red Lobster is, he waited on a mother and her son. Her son clearly went to school and was learning proper English. My brother asked what he could get them.
Son: Yes, can I have the fried shrimp, please, with french fries?
Mother: Looking incredulous. What?
Son: I mean, I have the fried scrimps and fries, mang.
Mother: I'ma do da same.
My brother: No problem.
Walking away and under his breath. Holy frick!

LOL, OMG how could you ever think that my BFF?

People who get their panties in a wad over grammar are the worst. Try to calm down and enjoy life instead of being an uptight a-hole all the time.

Oh, it's not just the "usual suspects" anymore when it comes to poor grammar and writing ability.
For years, you could expect the poorly educated applying for entry-level jobs to have poor writing skills. That hasn't changed much. But what I'm starting to see more often are college-educated kids who can't write for shite, and that annoys me way more than people who weren't trained right.
I used to interview a lot of LSU kids for entry-level public relations jobs. These are kids who should have not only good training in writing, but a natural inclination toward it. When I asked them to write something simple for me, the results were almost always predictable: poorly structured narratives, with little to no depth, and frequent grammatical errors.
It was so hard to find good writers. Even among the students who are supposed to be good writers.

Ironically, with common core, that's practically all that students are doing in English classes. Teaching grammar and spelling has been left behind to focus solely on writing. It isn't helping.

I know. The "and" conjunction throws them off and they use "I" in place of "me".

Comma followed by "lol" ...?
quote:
says "I be ready to work for you, sir"
Need comma after "says."

Nationwide, about 20 percent of freshmen entering four-year colleges are placed into remedial English and mathematics courses. At community colleges, that number jumps to about 60 percent.
Colleges were quick to realize the money generated by tuition and ease of obtaining student loans.
