the a-hole employees are usually the administrative and clerical staff. The medical staff are usually professional.
For what it's worth the medical staff aren't treated particularly well either. While there are exceptions there is a significant percentage of support staff who are either incompetent or DGAF or both. The medical staff generally does a good job with one hand tied behind their backs.
I have really never seen a veteran openly treated with disrespect though. I have seen vets who are extremely difficult to deal with.

I've only been to the VA once with my now late father-in-law who was a WWII vet and they treated him like a king, and it was good to see the level of service they provided him on that visit.
He was needing to use a walker, one of those that had a seat built into it and he got tired walking so I had him sit down and pushed him the rest of the way. The young lady that helped us asked if he had a wheelchair for times like this and I told her no.
She immediately requested a wheelchair and had it fitted for him and then ordered a motorized chair, lift to be fitted in the bed of his pickup and an aluminum handicap ramp to be installed at his son's house in Hammond where he was living at the time since he couldn't live alone.
They came out within a week and installed the lift to the bed of the pickup truck and also the handicap ramp to the house. I have nothing but praise for the service he got.
I'm really sorry to hear that some folks are being treated so badly and, unfortunately, those doing so are in a gov. job and are hard to get rid of once on the job.

I’ve been doing routine testing at the VA for years and I’ve never seen that happen, ever.
And 95% of the “vets “ at the VA are pieces of shite who worked the system and never spent 5 minutes in a combat zone.

How do you know if they're showing up timely? You a VA employee? Just curious.
The nurse has a sheet with names and appointments, they double slot all the time because of no shows, they call names and no one is there and I talk to the nurses and doctors. They call, and text continuous reminders about appointments to try to get better performance. It isn't hard to figure out. When it is free people abuse it.

And how do you know what pool they hire from?
Have you ever been to VA?

It’s a shame the way they treat Veterans. Some of the patients I receive from BA facilities it’s like WTF was that doctor thinking?

Well, this is bullshite, but expected from a doctor because doctors know everything and doctors never screw anything up. And the VA and DoD have never screwed over anyone with regard to the agent orange thing. Nope, not once.
I mean the guy telling me about his exposure while doing special forces ops being the reason he has painful neuropathy when his record shows he was non-combat for the whole 4 years he served...it’s these 70 yr old vets with significant mental health issues that “know everything”
I’m a specialist and never had any problems with the vets. They were usually very happy that they were getting to see me and I could usually help alleviate their pain. They never gave me or my staff crap (like I said the medical staff I worked with were all very respectful) but I heard all the complaining and watched the way they treated other staff around the hospital.
I will say that the young guys that served in Iraq and afghanistan were always very respectful. Again, at least to me and my staff as well as when I would observe them interact with other folks around the hospital. It was the older guys that were turds

Dang. You need a new VA. The one in Shreveport, it's very respectful 100% of the time (in my experience), and there seems to be a high patient satisfaction rating. I overheard a couple docs saying that a lot of patients actually request to come to this VA (rather than other hospitals).
What really bothers me, though, is when able-bodied people park in handicap parking spots - anywhere, but especially at the VA.

All you have to do is file a complaint and heads will roll. About the only way a VA employee gets fired is if they pass off a veteran. The employees are trained to be extremely nice and professional to veterans.
I retired from the military 2 1/2 years ago and I use the VA for some things and I am very good friends with the supervisor of all nurses at a VA facility and she shitcans any nurse that doesn't put vets first.

It bothers me when chickenhawk right wingers who studiously avoided military service themselves blather about supporting vets and then cut the funding necessary to support them.

It bothers me when I see grumpy entitled veterans being assholes to workers just trying to do their jobs

Their jobs are to provide healthcare services to veterans. They should be taught that they work for those veterans, and it’s part of their job to do everything they can to make sure that their customers are satisfied with the service they receive. If they aren’t capable of that, they need their asses fired.

Some of these guys have appeals that have been in the system for years because they didn't check the right boxes. Boxes that no one ever told them needed checked or boxes that are dynamic based on the rater or VARO.
They're dying of cancer or lung disease or some other nasty shite because the VA says it's not the right kind of cancer from their documented AO exposure. Or some dickbag VA rater lumped them in with the vets who have worked the system. Some can't work because they can barely get out of bed, and they're told tough shite because they didn't complain enough while they were in.
You don't really wonder why some of them have hostility for the VA, do you? The VA in general deserves as much shite as they get and more, and if those employees don't want to deal with it, they can find another job that will keep them employed for being frick ups.
