1) how rare is your skill or knowledge?
2) how much money can that skill or knowledge make someone else?

Oh, I'm paying alright. I think anyone with children will tell you they are paying. The correlation is indirect, but still present.
In Communist countries, athletes did not get paid fair market value for their skills. Russian hockey players defecting, Cuban baseball players, Eastern Block gymnasts; all these people were not paid according to their worth.
I have respect for teachers doing a thankless job, but the cold reality is that almost every teacher is easily replaced. Patrick Mahomes is not easily replaced. Steph Curry is not easily replaced.

I am a teacher.
It does not bother me. Athletes work extremely hard to get where they are. Many athletes don’t make much at all, just look at minor league baseball.
With that said, teachers are underpaid. If you don’t strip down the profession and invest in worthy teachers, the students lose in the long run. The system of state testing holding such high meaning has messed things up.
Athletes are not overpaid based on demand for their profession. It is stupid to say ‘nobody pays to see teachers teach.’ Nobody pays to see cops and fire fighters do their jobs either, but they are necessary to keep society functioning. I think it’s indicative of where we are as humans that a soccer player or NBA Star can make hundreds of billions of dollars.
Somewhere along the way the world lost sight of the importance of family values, education, etc. Role models are no longer parents and teachers, but athletes and celebs. It is what it is.

the principle of my kid's school told me this week that one of my kid's teachers, is "just a facilitator, it's up to your kid to know how to learn the material" so no, frick them. if teachers put in the same number of hours and dedication then perhaps, but they don't care, and so I have a hard time feeling sorry for them.

Rummel, there are actually legit responses in this thread. I really don’t understand why it’s such a big deal. If there are threads I’m not interested in I don’t read them or reply in them.
