When I’m busy, the amount of pressure and stress to get work finished by deadlines keeps me up at night.
When I’m not busy, the amount of pressure and stress to hit my billable targets keeps me up at night.
Most of my classmates and I are in big law.

Your philosophy is how I interpret existentialism overall. Gotta own it.

I see, although I don't invite it I thrive under pressure, a lot of my frat brothers are lawyers/judges

Life is too short to be full of regret and misery and being a victim....I simply refuse to be a victim because everything that has ever happened to me was either unavoidable or the result of a choice or action on my part.....
You do realize, you can have regret, and be miserable, and still own it, right? And not be a victim?
Just because one, when looking back, might have made different choices and has regret, doesn't mean one is being a victim. Or blaming anyone themselves. It means possibly they've learned from their mistakes.
I know that where I am today, is all because of choices that I've made. And I'm extremely thankful for the position I am in relative to many others in this world. But I also encourage my kids to chase after their dreams, don't settle, because I pretty much did. That's all on me. I'm no victim. And I can quit my job today. That's completely in my control.
But I harbor some regret. Doesn't make me any less than you.

I'm in such a weird place career wise..I truly go back and forth from being happier and more driven at work than I have ever been in any other job to typing out my resignation letter...almost no in between.
For context I was a behavioral health practitioner than basically got promoted into dropping my whole caseload and running a company... it happened fast but I couldn't say no..so here I am

Does anyone really like their job?
Most days I love my job. There is no question that there are some days it is a find or frustrating but I never need motivation to get up and go to work.
I had planned to retire 7 years ago at 50 and could have financially but my wife who is 12 years younger than me wanted to keep working because she loves her work almost every day. I decided to keep working because I have enough time for my hobbies as it is. The only thing I would like to do is travel more but I don't like to travel without my wife except for the occasional boys trip.

People say they enjoy their job, but I have never met anyone that would do it without being paid. People tolerate their job because they get paid.

I started a new gig about 8 months ago. I told a friend the other day that this is the first time since I worked at a golf course in high school and college that I actually like my job.
Of course, that doesn't mean I would work if I didn't have to.

love my job. First job in my entire life that I actually love
Most of that time was military, which I mostly enjoyed, but really hated aspects of it, especially post 9/11. After that, I took a cushy white collar job, which I always thought of as my dream, and was miserable, and bored to tears pretty much immediately.
After a major health event, a lot of things looked different to me, and a pleasant and enjoyable time at a place I spend half my life at, became a priority, so I took the plunge, and three years into it again, it's one of the best choices I've ever made.
It definitely impacted my income, though, and wouldn't even be something I'd have even considered without military retirement pay, or would have been able to do before my kids were financially independent. So I am fortunate in that regard.

I used to. What happens if I enjoy it at first and then all the shite that just drags over time starts piling up, and I just see it as failures and hate myself, so I end up leaving.

I'm gonna speak for about 85% of adults with jobs across the world:
No. No and most don't like their jobs.

I enjoy mine.
If that changes I'll look for something else.

Love my job. Almost half the year off and can make as much as I am willing to work now these days. Unfortunately I don't like working alot. My choice. Are there shite days of course but the good days definitively outweigh the bad. Retirement within the next 10 -15 years I got a pension and a fat 401k so no complaints

I liked my job trucking cross country, but ever since covid it has become a real pain. Drivers everywhere have gotten more aggressive and reckless, and the trucking industry itself has become a joke. Importing tens of thousands of India's morons combined with corporations doing everything they can do to separate us from our money has gotten out of hand. Hopefully by the end of the year I'm going back to my old job at AG in Baton Rouge. I'm sick of this shite.
