Does anyone on this board have an affiliation or know someone who does with Scientology?

Scientology has always fascinated me in the same way a lot of cults do. However out of all of them, Scientology seems to be the biggest and appears to have staying power.
Even Jonestown only amassed a few thousand people in California and South America whereas Scientology appears world wide.
Feel like I could read about all the ins and outs of it for hours and most of it seems like complete gibberish which I imagine is almost intentional. It seems intentionally confusing and weird and makes you want to know more. How people give up their lives and basically get enslaved by this thing is wild to me but obviously people do it.
They own yachts, properties, etc…Much of it seems very nice and expensive so clearly they have a massive amount of cash they manage. However it still seems to me like it’s a shiny veneer over something pretty empty.Interviews of L Ron Hubbard seem hard to find but the ones I do are basically him talking nonsense.
Seems like there’s all kinds of things to discuss with this but was curious if anyone here ever was on the inside. It’s all so fascinating to me in a kind of horrifying way that something like this exists in America and just snatches people up.

Not today, Tom Cruise. Keep your witchcraft away from us.

Frankly, I'm more fascinated with the proliferation of the Cult of Tay Tay...

There are probably only around 33,000 scientologists in the world, with 99% being in the united states

Now Falun Gong, that's a massive cult

I used to work for a guy that was HEAVY into it. ( and still is..he moved to the MotherShip in Clearwater).
He used to have me hold the E-Meter thingy while he asked me questions and tell me I was thinking of trauma in my life. ( If trauma was how stupid this was he may have been right) After much proding, me and another co-worker decided to be nice and visit a meeting. BIG MISTAKE....these people hounded us daily. We finally had to tell our boss that we are " glad this works for you but we are not into it".
He was genuinely hurt and could not understand why we were not just wanting to jump into the club. He gave away MILLIONS to this organization and retired pretty close to broke, when he could have retired a millionaire.
It is a CULT....no ifs ands or buts.

They've got the best attorneys.

All religions are cults. Some just more socially acceptable than others.

If you want to have some fun, go to their clearwater fortress and start looking in random windows. You'll have weird security people following you everywhere
I was trying to sell them something years ago and this girl I was talking to outside of a building just straight up starting running when I started the conversation. Super weird.

I really don't have much real life experience with scientologists. The closest story I got was one time in college I had a weed dealer gave me a Dianetics pamphlet with the weed I bought. Didn't know what it was so I looked it up out of curiosity and when I found out it was Hubbard's thing right before Scientology I tossed the pamphlet and went back to playing Halo.
I know, CSB but that's my contribution.

Do they just have money to buy the best attorneys or are these like legit members who are attorneys in their day job?

Check out Mike Rinder who just passed away over the weekend. He was WAY up in Scientology, left in 2007, and became one of their most vocal critics. His blog has a lot of info. Also Tony Ortega is a good resource.
Ironic you brought this up. I was reading about him yesterday on Wikipedia and saw the date of death and thought “holy shite this guy died yesterday”

ETA: a lot of the stuff from Scientology seems like legitimately bad science fiction

Yup, a big part of that is because it's pretty new.
