Long story short, I was at someone's house recently and someone there had to go to their vehicle to get something and was looking for their keys to unlock their door. It was in a rural area. They have a few houses around them and they are not far from town, but the person whose house we were at was like "you locked your car? I keep my keys in my truck over night so that when I wake up and leave to go to work I know exactly where they are".

That just seems like giving your vehicle away. You never really know when someone says "lets go check out ____________. I bet some of them don't even lock their cars"...

Anyone else leave their keys in their vehicle (which also means you leave the doors unlocked).

I did in the 80s. My brother stole my truck once.

We never locked the house either.

If you do this in a populated area, you’re a retard. Also, my car auto locks after a while so I couldn’t do this anyway.

I leave my house keys in my car and my car keys in my house. If I’m ever robbed they won’t get them all together. I’ve read that’s one of the easiest things you can do to protect yourself.

Thats another thing. You can still take your keys with you and have that one spot you put them in all the time.. WIthout just leaving them in your vehicle.

I’m old enough to remember the 1970s, where growing up outside of NOLA a lot of people did that.. anyone who does that now in 2020 is kind of a moron and deserves to have their ish stolen.. even if you live in a small town, there’s methheads and others looking for an opportunity.

Well, your garage is part of your home, so i dont think leaving your car keys in your car IN your home is what the OP was asking about... But thanks for weighing in.

if someone tries to steal your car, they're going to find your house key. then bludgeon you to death in your sleep. then take your car key and car.
