Looks like this murderer may be released in two weeks. I know the family has to be reeling.

He's gonna venture back up to NBR thinking it's still the 70s, and get rubbed out quite quickly

Before the trial began, Chenevert agreed to plead guilty to two second-degree murder charges with the agreement that he would never be a free person.
Why is this even being considered then?

Because I very seriously doubt that was ever "the agreement". Statutorily, Second Degree Murder carries Life without the benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence. That's what he pleaded to, so sure, I imagine the DA told the family that he would never be released. But I can't fathom why Chenevert would have ever had reason or opportunity to "agree" to never being released. And had the Pardon Board not intervened, he never would have had the opportunity.

"Back in those days, in 1979, an upscale apartment, two bloodied bodies found in a dumpster stabbed multiple times... that just did not happen in Baton Rouge," JP recalled.

Bc maybe he didn’t do these murders but knows who did or was an accomplice - maybe committed other murders or crimes or had some dirt on some police officers - so he was offered a deal
I have no idea - this was before my time

The only thing that comes to my mind as a reason for this is exculpatory DNA that proves another individual is responsible for the murders.

He should have been killed. It makes 0 sense to release him at this point.

I remember Chenevert and theses murders and the murder of Denise Eskine; they all happened around the same time. Denise's body was found in a cane field across the river after she disappeared from the State Fair.

After 42 years behind bars, a Baton Rouge man sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in the 1979 killing of his roommate and another friend will go free.
Louisiana’s Board of Pardons and Parole voted 2-1 Monday to release David Chenevert, who had agreed to spend the rest of his life in prison when he pleaded guilty in 1981 to stabbing Michael Brown and Evelyn McIntyre inside Brown’s home on North Stevendale Road. The board's decision came after a nearly 90-minute hearing, during which family members of Chenevert’s victims spoke almost unanimously against his release.
quote:
Chenevert covered his face and broke down in sobs as board member Sheryl Ranatza gave the final vote, breaking a tie between Pearl Wise’s vote in favor of his release and Bonnie Jackson’s vote opposing it.
The victims’ families watched expressionless as Ranatza read the restrictions of Chenevert’s parole, which included the stipulation that the 64-year-old leave Louisiana and not return without express permission from a parole officer.

I have zero memories of Baton Rouge in the 1970s, with the exception of when i was very little (3 or 4 yrs old) and we would travel up from NOLA to go to a place called Thunderbird Beach… i have very fond (though very hazy) memories of the place, and i believe it has been gone for many years now .

I can’t imagine how I would react as a family member of the victims.
Our justice system is straight shite.
