My buddy is a Sales Manager. He hires his guys based off how hot their wives are. Not because he wants to bang the women but because he says "getting a woman ten times hotter than you tells me you can sell yourself and if you can do that then you can sell anything." I laughed at first and then thought about it. I know some really good sales guys that are trolls and have hot women.
Interesting strategy… but i know a lot of people , both in and out of sales, who dont have social media for whatever reason.. if not already acquainted, how would he know how hot their wives are, or arent ?

Have been in sales for 18 years, my business is repeat sells once you build a relationship. First 4-5 years was lots of cold calls...tons of hang ups, don't ever call again. At one point I was sending stop watches to guys asking for 2 minutes of their time - it worked on a few. Best story I have was my partner who also posts here. Guy he was calling on kept a notebook of everyone he said don't call back by firm...he yelled and screamed at my buddy saying Date and time he told him not to call the prior time. A couple months later we brought a product to market that guy wanted, he had to call and apologize and wanted to put in an order.

Our company has a cold caller and he is a happy cheerful dude and good at his job.
I’ve been in the office when he calls and he comes off great. Just enjoys talking to people all day. He actually Ubers at night because he likes conversation that much.
Our company sells very particular products to very particular markets so while we are cold calling, it’s not like we’re trying sell you an extended car warranty.
I’m a network engineer but we are a sales organization at heart. It takes a different type to be a cold caller or outside sales guy. Inside sales guy went home for covid and set up in his shed and never came back. Made more than the owner last year with bonuses.

I don’t personally make them but I lead a Territory of sales people that do. Most of them are high 6 figure earners. I’ll make around $600k this year as well. Say what you will but if you are good at it, it pays incredibly well.

Don’t cold call anymore but do inbound leads and it can still be brutal. I just act an arse right back to them.

Eh. I mean obviously if you’re high up in the sales org you’re probably loaded.
But I still know BDRs / SDRs in their early 20’s making $150k. If you start investing in your early 20’s with income like that then you’re gonna be wealthy.
Not to mention, I know people in their 40’s that would kill to be making $150k.
Cold calling is lucrative for anyone that is mentally tough enough to consistently and successfully do it.

I'm in sales....I don't make cold calls....I make decent money, nothing OT rich, but I pay bills. I have my own website for people to find me.
I do send brochures out to get my name and number out. But no cold calls.

I do sales. We are established in our area, but I do from time to time hop around town to random locations of our clientele and introduce myself and later bring food. Won’t know anybody in the office or any names or anything.
I’m, and most probably won’t believe me, very personable and I’m good at just shooting shite, with both women and men.
Edit: have two friends that did cold calling life/disability insurance. One of them quit after like a year. The other still does it 12 years later and makes more than $500k. It’s genuinely a personality thing, imo.

I’ve made cold calls on people while they were posting on TD in their office. I know I have customers that post here and even more that lurk. I don’t make many cold calls anymore, but I wouldn’t be where I am today without the skills I learned cold calling.

I did for many years. Built up a decent book of business that was killed in the Great Recession. Didn’t want to start over so I changed careers.

I was offered a 12k raise to take a position in the company that involved cold calling. Not a chance I told them

Some of the funniest / saddest people you will ever meet are in sales.
I'd love to hear some funny stories from people who do cold calls.
Cold call is a vague term. I cold call but my prospective buyer is one of 277 companies in this state. I haven't had to make an appointment in nearly a decade. I am not going to disclose my income but I have ownership in my firm. Answering phone calls is reactionary to a "why" did they call you. In my business I uncover their problems and develop a solution. I'm quite happy.

Its a cute story, but how does he get pictures of all the applicant’s wives?

So that's your people calling me every other day to let me know my car warranty is about to expire on my 2020 pickup with 5k miles?
Posted on 1/12/22 at 9:47 pm to AlbertMeansWell
Industrial calls yes and have made money with some sales over $500k

Did it for 18 months. $18K a year draw. Early 90's in Houston fresh out of college. Sold fax machines. Our division had 15 reps. For all of Houston. And 13 of those reps were dedicated dictation reps. They would bust our balls by asking who the first guy to buy a fax machine was going to fax.
Absolutely nailed the timing. Made a $100K ~9 months making cold calls at 23 years old. Spent the next 9 months thinking I was too fricking awesome to make cold calls while spending a $120K and got fired. But gotdamm that was a fun 9 months. A guy smarter than me was able to survive for a few months longer and got on with Houston Cellular at straight commission and rode that shite into a few million before he was thirty.
30 years later I would like to say, suck it you conceited dictation fricks.
