EWE was one of the worst governors this state has ever had. But since he spoke flat, chased pussy, and was a populace politician, he’s been lionized by voters and institutions alike. It’s indicative of why Louisiana is doomed to be a bottom dweller nationally and will likely never escape its legacy of corruption and incompetence.

The legislature enacted a law that allowed Harrah's to be built in New Orleans.

Call Chris Hemmeter and ask him how he was out corrupted and forced into bankruptcy because wasn’t part of the political mafia machine. He now lives in Hawaii.

The gaming area is actually on a barge floating on 2 feet of water.

LauBerge in LC is designed this way too.

I am shocked, no one has mentioned how gaming made Louisiana the paradise it is. From education to infrastructure, and crime to illegitimacy we've come a long way.

EWE's kids other than Stephen got nothing out of the Harrah's deal. EWE got very little out of the Harrah's deal. Edwards was making his money as a power broker on the front end selling access mainly on riverboat casinos. It was going fine for him on that end until his buddy DeBartolo got pissed off or rather DeBatolo's sister (Denise York) got pissed off in a fight over the 49ers and sold her brother out over it to the Feds....then Eddie DeBartolo sang.

Lauberge and all the boat casinos have to have captain and crew.

A building on stilts in the river needs a captain and a crew?

Margartaville in Bossier is land based.

A lot of the older Tunica casinos are built in little ponds "in the river". Now they just build everything on piers.

Dig this outside Chicago. It's truly on the water in a giant boat with two pointy pontoons underneath. It's easily the size of a couple football fields.

It can't leave the slip.

It's too wide for the river.

It wouldn't clear the drawbridge.

It wouldn't make the turn into the river.

But hey it's a boat on the water...

A big-time multi-millionaire real estate developer from Colorado named Christopher Hemmeter came to Louisiana to push the idea of a casino in New Orleans. Hemmeter had developed high end properties in Hawaii and other states. His vision for the casino was to be modeled after the French Opera House and would be called the Grand Palais Casino.

He began by getting Edwin Edwards involved to help sell his project to the state legislature. After Hemmeter spent millions of dollars for studies and political “fees” the state legislature approved a single land based casino at the site of the Rivergate in New Orleans.
There were over 15 bidders for the license including one led by Ronnie Lamarque and another made up of personal injury lawyers. Hemmeters bid included 2 riverboats that would be docked at the foot of Poydras St. that would serve as casinos while the land based casino was being built.

Edwin Edwards and several others went to jail for taking bribes. Christopher Hemmeter filed bankruptcy and died broke in Colorado. It is very sad for a man to lose everything and die broke after getting involved with the cancerous LA politicians.
