Besides other aspects, being a vet opens the door to a lot of Federal jobs. Definitely a plus if he's looking into law enforcement as a career.

Tell him to apply to Annapolis. He comes out as an officer and a BS degree. He can serve in the Marines, Navy or cross transfer to AF or Army.

Just me, but I’d talk to him about ROTC. I’d go the officer route in his case. I would say ROTC over an officer candidate program because he can get his feet wet before graduating. He can train all through college.

He can handle getting his arse chewed out, common sense is a big problem.

He good at computer shite? Air Force. Better pay, better food, better housing and safer. We need our Marines thought and they are my personal favorite branch, but after seeing the lifestyle and opportunities my nephew and his wife have had in the Air Force and for her as a cyber security consultant now in the private sector, they are doing well.

No matter the branch he goes in, he will get paid the exact same per his rank. As someone that was in the marine corps, go Air Force or coast guard.
He will be so dang happy he did when he sees how much better the bases are, the barracks, life in general

Former Navy here. I’ve found a lot of valuable information in this thread. The only thing I’d add is that my biggest regret from my time in the Navy was not choosing a trade that translated well to civilian life. If your son decides to enlist, make sure he picks a role that sets him up for success after the Marine Corps,or whichever branch he joins. Wishing him the best of luck

Tell him OCS if at all possible.

My son just graduated HS and told us a couple of days ago that he is going to join and wants to do infantry. He's been discussing military, and of course wife (no pics) was trying to steer him more towards the Air Force or the Navy.
If he wants to be in the USMC infantry I wouldn’t steer him in any other direction. The worst thing you could do is convince him to be an admin boot in the navy. USMC infantry is a great pathway for a solid military career especially at his age. Or he can get out after 4 years with benefits and college paid for.
And if he’s a football athlete with a 28 act score means he’s going to be a stud marine

What in the frick
Maybe he could take his 28 ACT and enhance it with something he could be proud of.

Does he like to smoke, dip, chug energy drinks, do pull ups, fight, bang fat nasty strippers? If so, he'll be a great fit.

I did 12 years with the USN as a corpsman all with the USMC at Camp lejeune. 2 deployments to Afghanistan. 2 to Iraq
