Because they are fat and most crossfitters arent? Look i dislike crossfit for my own reasons but its a good program.

Most people dont like Olympic lifts, i get it, but they are great lifts just not for time lol.

And burpees are a great movement and only a dumbass would say otherwise. Bmy you more than welcome to debate this with me. The only thing bad about the burpee is it can be rough on your rest if you sprawl.

People making fun of the trx lift and zercher squat are clueless.

Whe crossfit is done right its

Lift heavy as shite
Pravtice gymnastics/bodyweight movements
10 min max metcon with no Olympic lifts.

But as with most things it gets butchered and thats why i dont like official crossfit, well that and the lack of standardized progression on the main lifts. But many boxes and programs fix that like cf football.

Btw cf has done more for weightlifting in general than anything since arnold. That includes bodybuilding, powerlifting and traditional weight lifting (Olympic lifts)

I've never run across any of the type of shite talked about here at the Cf gym I go to. We don't call it a box, we don't do stupid shite like in those gifs, and if you lift with terrible form, our coaches will make you slow down, take weight off and do the lift with proper form.

The thing I like about is I don't have to worry about following my own program, lifting on my own and not even knowing if my technique sucks, or anything like that.

I go in, we warm up, do either a lift or gymnastics complex, then do the WOD. It's something I can just show up and do and not have to put any thought too, and doing it with other people is motivating.

seriously? i mean highschool football coaches love them. that's about the only use they have.

they're terrible for your lower back and knees. do them AMRAP style like CF does.. and the injury risk skyrockets because of fatigue. injuries to the hands, wrists, and shoulders are extremely common.

and really.. what benefit do they offer that you can't get from something 100x safer?

i have no problem with the movement done in an intelligent fashion. that's just not something you find in a crossfit box

Compare the first few minutes to the last few minutes and it should be obvious why it's dumb as frick

Burpees are bad for your knees? Just stfu while you are ahead. The only portion of a burpee that even involves the knee in an significant portion is the veryical jump at the end. There is not a more natural force or range of motion for the knees than the vertical jump. Its literally what are knees are made for.

And really the back? They dont compress the back, nor does it put the back in any twisting motion. Its not bad for the back at all.

Simply you have no fricking clue what you are talking about. If you would have said the inpact on the wrist and anckles is terrible for you i would have let it go, but nope you had to taln out your arse.

And burpees are very natural movement that provides incredible conditioning and helps with athleticism. Sure it can be replicated but not with a simple movement like burpees because they do not create soreness. And burpees for time or a total number as fast as possible is how they should be programmed and how the best strength coaches program them.

And i am somebody that doslikes the way cf is taught, but dont come in here acting kike you know what you are talking about when you clearly don't. Just make fun of it like most people do. Or make fun of other stupid shite they do, there is plenty to chose from

Ryno wtf are you talking about? Zercher is a great movement snd its why its programmed into westside barbell programs and is mentioned by wendler so much. Its more of an advanced lift though, but a good one none the less

I'm not familiar with a 20 rep plan. It may be one of the templates from his Beyond 531 book. Not sure.

On the Wendler 5-3-1 app it has a Week 4 option of either 5-5-5 or 20-20-20. I didn't like either from a deload standpoint so I just sorta do my own stuff on week 4. I work mobility, form, and some support stuff.

Outside of that I do 5-3-1 pretty much by the book. Like some said, I've never done a program like this before. I've done the program that kills you and the program that gives you the quick immediate plans, but I've never done the program that gives consistent long term gains. I'm targeting hitting 400 on the deadlift this year, and I was the guy who struggled to break 225 with good form for years.

O and I mix in some OLY circuits (either snatch or split jerk) for OH Press as I've really struggled to break through a 175 plateau on OH Press. I've tried about every variation and support and just can't seem to break through. I also like adding in the OLY to help the explosive element.

Huge and forever thanks for all who recommended it.

Wendler called them a party trick that has zero business being in 99% of the population's programs.

100% true until you get tired. hips get tired and your lower back takes over.

repetitive flexion of the lower back is a staple of the AMRAP burpee and an extremely common way to injure your lower back.

for elite athletes, sure. for 99+% of crossfit guys? hell no

I watched the video and at no time was his knees at risk. Now maybe you could say he was causing some compression on his back , but no kore than one would do in their daily life.

My only issue with burpees is wrist issues if you go fast and slam at the bottom or just overdo the volume.

I'm old and try to avoid things that will possibly injure me. Need to know my limits. I know I'll never be spry enough to run around with Lester's top 25 beasts.

shite gets fricked up when your average joe is tired and doing burpees. i'm not against the movement when done well by athletes. it just has no place in your average joes life except to make him feel cool and tired i suppose. the article ends up saying "incorporate burpees" but the text talks about the risk of injury all over

The video you just posted is not a burpee despite what he says. Its a hip thrust with a pushup as taught in high school gym class. A burpee as practiced in crossfit and athletics is a mma type sprawl where no real pushup is involved. Its a conditioning tool.

Two different things.

And extension in the back is a good thing, compression is not. I can maybe understand your concerns with compression, but you have more to worry about from sitting around all day.

Hard on the knees....now thats a bullshite statement.

Btw burpees when done correctly should have a 5min cutoff. One should aim for one every 3 seconds, once form breaks and time between starts to fall off to over 6 seconds per its time to stop the set. Work you way up with mutiple sets everyday sticking to the 3 seconds per. Eventually agter many months working uo to 100 in 5 min which is the ultimate goal.

After yet to meet anybody that wasnt happy with their overall health and body composition that could come close to that mark. The burpee is a grat tool when not bastardsized with 20min amrap stupid shite.

And what i am saying is your are wrong. They are the oerfect kift for the average joe. Its easy to learn and require very little though and zero equipment. Just has to be worked uo to by the average fat arse with hip thrust then hip thrust with pushups.

And ryno your concern over the wrist is bery valid.

You'll be fine.......find a gym with good coaches and scale the workouts/movement to your fitness level.

Basically Every movement in Crossfit can be scaled.......don't go in and try to be Billy Badass on day one..........listen to your coaches and compete against yourself everyday.

As with any workout......get your diet in check as well.
