What about the Red Lion and the Loose Ruck back in 1973? Good times!

Juniors bouncers would beat the crap out of both guys in a fight to make a point. That place was the Double Deuce.

You don’t remember Big Mike, was basically the cooler. He was like 6’4” about 260….
I got to know all the bouncers there, watched them beat the shite out a bunch of guys.

My son manages the Brown Door. Its no sonic, but a frat boy can knuckle check there most nights…until my spawn moos the floor with him.

Every time I went to Augustine's it was grungy looking dudes playing darts after they finished their shift in a fast food kitchen

Many of times I had a grilled chicken Caesar salad at mickeys for lunch with a few beers. Next thing I know it’s 10pm and people are starting to show up all dressed up. I usually stayed until 2am at that point. Good times.

Stray Cats was one of my main stomping grounds in the early 90's. Crazy to think the current Mayor of Hammond owned it back then. Ole Pete has come a long ways. Wasn't much into Chevy's or Extras. Most just Stray Cats, Brown Door and Central Fly Away.
Stray Cats has been open for quiet awhile in downtown Ponchatoula. Pretty nice bar with lots of very nice pool tables. Pete is still part owner.

Mickeys
Mickey's and The Library were both owned by Johnny Schillace. He owns Wiseguy's Daiquiris in Hammond now.
Mickey's had $1 fish bowls and The Library used to always have the best wet t-shirt contests.
Extra Innings was just somewhere to go fight or watch a good fight.Lots of $5 drink all night parties
Starz downtown was where everyone went to do X and dance.
Chevy's was a good place to find a easy drunk chick and The Teak Lounge was a good place to pick up a cougar
Hammond had a pretty decent bar scene back in the 90's. Hard to believe that a college town doesn't have that many bars any longer.
ETA Other great bars in Hammond were Robert E Lee's, Johnny's Lounge, The Ramada Inn bar and Hi-Ho Sam's

Extra innings and Texas club had to be the two places with the most physical altercations in all of Louisiana.

In the mid-80s it was always Juniors/Razzys on Thursday. 3 for 1 drinks until 10 and the number of people was in the 1000s. If you were there on Friday they had Drinkin with Lincoln for those there early. In the earlier 80s you could sit on the back porch and watch the softcore porn at the drive-in.
The Crescent always had a poker game with some serious money on the table. You did not want to make eye contact with some of those folks when you passed to go to the bathroom. They had a police scanner behind the bar which I found interesting with the number of high up officers and politicos at the table.
I think Bill Wray still played at the Brown Door back then.
The Crescent and Brown Door were welcoming to students but really felt almost historic in their status.
They had a place named Scarlett Oharas which had bands upstairs where I saw groups like the Producers. It definitely had a New Orleans Warehouse feel.
It closed my Junior year but they had a hamburger place next to bus station called Sebastians that has .25 beer and 1.00 pitchers on Mondays.
