Does anyone have maps of the old parade routes?

This would be pretty interesting to see. I've only been coming to Mardi Gras since 2014 so most of the routes have remained the same in that time. The biggest change I can remember is eliminating how parades double back on Canal (which I always though was awesome, but get why they did it). This talk of moving Endymion is something I really don't like because part of its identity is linked to Mid City. It's admittedly weird to me to have the Krewe of Mid City, Freret, and Carrolton not even parade anywhere near the names of their krewes. I'd love to see some old maps that show where parades used to go. Also more specifically did Bacchus always travel up from Napoleon and down St. Charles?

He's mentioned that he grew up on Prytania in a few threads.

I remember catching Hercules in Gentilly.
Carrollton near a cemetery, then walking as soon as it was over to catch Okeanos on Orleans.
I remember seeing Rhea in Metairie on Severn, the interstate side of Severn.
Diana on Metairie Road is another childhood memory.
I'm sure I can think of others. I'm going back like 40 years.
Saw Endymion in Kenner in 79 the year of the NOPD strike. And the Mardi Gras Day trucks rolled in Gretna.

As recently as the 70's and 80's there were parades in Gentilly and New Orleans East as well as Mid City and Uptown. Now everything is Uptown and only Endymion is in Mid City.
I grew up Uptown so I only go to the parades on that route. But I do wonder if the consolidation of everything to the Uptown route has contributed to the explosion in the crowd size on St Charles, and the influx of people from the outlying parishes.

I would say most definitely. If Endymion ever caves and moves there (they better not!) then holy shite.

There was a parade called Helios that went down Metairie road as well.

Actually, NOMTOC rides in Algiers, as does the beginning of Adonis (which crosses over and ends in Jefferson Parish).
Additionally, Nefertiti started riding in New Orleans East this year.

All of the Metairie parades (Zeus, Diana, Rhea, Helios, Atlas, Thor, Mardi Gras, etc.)had the Metairie Road route until 1978.

Terrytown was the place to be on the first weekend. Cleopatra on Fri night and Alla on Sunday afternoon.

When I was a kid, most of the New Orleans parades started on Jackson Ave. They still went down Royal St. When they took away the FQ part of the route, they moved to Napoleon Ave. Hermes actually started on Washington Ave. The trucks on MG day lined up on Tchoupitoulas and went down Napoleon to St. Charles.

I rode in Pontchartrain in 99, 2000, 2001, somewhere around there, and it was on the mid-city route.
Your best bet might be to see if you can find someone selling old Arthur Hardy Mardi Gras guides from the 90s or so. Maybe on ebay or something. Those had the maps. Also, the Times-Picayune would always print every map, each day there was a parade.

Houma Parades use to ride from the East Side to the West Side before the Twins Spans were built. Started at Ellender, went down GC Road, Turned left on Main, then disbanded on Lafayette Street.

Which, in spite of being a "Top Ten," will include at least 17 parade routes and still somehow omit 2-3 of the most important/obvious examples.

I can remember when Hercules and Pandora used to begin and end in the old Ponchartain Beach parking lot. The parades in the East like Pontchartrain and Minerva used to come down Crowder.
Mid City used to roll down Canal Street on Sunday. It would start on S.St.Patrick next to St.Anthony of Padua. I want to say bsck in the day, Okeanos paraded on the downtown side of Canal and I want to say it had part of its route on St. Claude
Does anyone know if Krewe of Dreux still "parade" in the Franklin Avenue , Prentiss Street area with all the participants getting drunk at the Golden Cue?

ALLA used to cross parish lines on the West Bank, Same with Cleopatra an the original Nefertiti
I think NOMTOC still has the old route on General Meyer?
The Parish used to have some good ones like Gladiators on the first Friday....Maclean Stevenson was king one year and called Chalmette a ghetto suburb on Carson.....the natives were not appreciative. Also had Shangri La and Amor. At one time it had a Mardi Gras Day with Arabi, Atreus and St.Bernard.
Best Bank had Grela and a truck parade after.
