I used to want to be a partner of equivalent at whatever company I'm at.
Now I have seen what that actually entails at a bigger firm and I think I'd start my own company before I did that for someone else.

What do you do for work?

Consider your drone career as generating seed capital for you to invest in a daquiri shop, a carwash, etc. I'm not bringing up anything in real estate, that's for the Money board.
I've been a drone for years, and once I accepted my regular career is buying me time to find other opportunities, it put me in a better mental space.

If I could make the same money laying on the couch watching tv, I'd start tomorrow.

I am just not a business-minded person. Money itself, success, the rat race- none of that really motivates me all that much, but not having to worry about money, and being able to support myself and what I like to do in my free time for sure motivates me, and is very important to me. I kind of wish that I was different, but it is what it is.

This is where I’m at as well. I feel like they would promote me if I tried/wanted it, but I don’t want this shite taking over my life which would happen if I took the next “step” up the ladder. The pay isn’t worth it to me.
I’m lucky that my wife makes good money (nearly double what I make) so this does give me some wiggle room sole providers may not have. And she’s also not a bitch about it which helps lol.

I really enjoy what I do. But it took a career change in my 30s and going back to school to achieve it. I was absolutely miserable in my previous position by the time we got through COVID, I was ready to quit.

I cared about my career track until the day my first child was born. I was 31. My goal went from wanting to be CEO one day to just looking to move up a few more steps on the corporate ladder. Wanted to make enough to produce a comfortable salary that would give family a nice life yet still be able to enjoy time and life with the family.

My company has a scholarship fund for all employees children to go to a University for practically nothing. I won't be leaving any time soon. That's how you create a culture of happy employees.

Any of you baws feel the same way?
yes, likely most feel this way. this is a symptom of a sick, materialist society that has lost all connection to the way things are supposed to be.
this is why i'm going to law school at 40 and my primary goal in life outside of god and my family is to absolutely wreck the neocon neoliberal security healthcare military state into utter nonexistence.
we're made to be doing more meaningful things than most of the bullshite we do day in day out.

Exact same situation I'm in. I could advance where I'm at, but the increase in pay would not be worth it to me. My wife kills it, so there is no pressure to bring home the bacon.
38 here. I value my free time more than money at this point.

Maybe it's time for you to find a new gig dude. Living in misery every day is not a good recipe for your life
He said he enjoys doing what he does just fine, just doesn't care about career advancement as he used to

Seems to me like there are a lot of industries/niches in the corporate world where moving up the ladder is hardly worth it after a promotion/significant raise or two

Does anyone else not give a shite about their career?
I'm always trying to advance up the ladder and have never gotten to a point where I'm overwhelmed or feel I can't take on that next role. But again, the main reason I'm doing so is for more money.
The job is fine, and each advancement has also been fine, so why not keep going for more money...
I mean, if I won the lottery tomorrow for $10mil, that would be the last day I ever worked, so it's not just pure love of the job.

I own the company and I am tired of what I do. I'm so sick of it I am looking to make a change.

My goal in life is to someday be the best Home Depot associate ever.
Probably going to have to wait until my kids leave the house.
