I feel like nothing changes,
Nothing changes, if nothing changes.
If you want change, you'll have to be the change. Because at the end of the day, the only thing that you can control is yourself.
quote:
Long story short, I'm here more due to circumstance than choice.
Everybody has a choice Don't sell yourself short. If you get sick and tired of being sick and tired, you'll do something about it and by that, I mean doing something other than posting about it on a message board. What that something is, that's for you to figure it out.
But everyone has a choice, regardless of the circumstance. No one can take that away from you.
And remember, the circumstance that you are in are because of small choices that you made along the way, not anyone else. Too many people like to blame something else or someone else because of the choices they make. Why? Because it's the easier thing to do. But own your decisions, thoughts, desires and actions and if something doesn't work out, at least you can deal it and know that it was on your terms.

I had an engineer friend who worked for BR. He came up with multiple proposals to ease traffic and was told “no money for that” on every one of them. He got frustrated and moved.
My inlaws moved to the Nashville area 10 years ago. We visited a few times and figured out pretty quick that we should move. No job or anything, just sold our house and left.

I grew up around Baton Rouge. After Katrina, the traffic became unbearable. I love LSU as much as anybody, but isn't enough to make up for the crappy parts about Baton Rouge.
I lived in Jackson, Mississippi for a while and it was miserable. Moved to the Gulf Coast and it's now home. I'm still close enough to Baton Rouge to make LSU games and be near family. I don't have to deal with God awful traffic on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
It's all about what you want, I suppose. I couldn't live in a big city like Dallas or Nashville. I need my space and despise traffic. The Gulf Coast is big enough to have attractions/things to do, but still small enough that I don't have to plan my entire day around when traffic will be at a standstill.

If you don't mind me asking, what do you love about it?
I make a ton of fricking money in it.

things are literally shittier than ever here.
Are they really though? By what objective measurements? Serious question, not being fecitious. There is a growing millennial movement, see Government St revival. 2 beer breweries and one more opening up. Perhaps in the next decade more progressive Millennials will start getting their names in politics and shaking things up.

Then it will definitely be time to leave

Yeah and that's why I moved.

Clearly what I was asking.

Hahahaha here we go. Louisiana people are delusional when they go there. Alabama is not worse in any metric. Seriously, why do you people believe Alabama is such a bad state? Is it because we hate the crimson tide? I don’t get it. It’s really absurd.

It’s not a cultural gem like Acadiana or NOLA.
No kidding, I took some friends from cenla to the LSU game. They were shocked I didn’t order etoufee or something Cajun at chimes because “we were in Baton Rouge”
We walked by a guy giving free cracklins samples and one guy didn’t want to try any. His ole lady says “we are in Baton Rouge you better try those cracklins”
I hope that people really don’t think Baton Rouge is “Cajun” because it’s certainly not.

It's fake Cajun. People saying "cher" because they wanna be folksy.

The only Cajun thing about red stick are the people who come over from Acadiana on LSU game day.
When people there try to talk about boudin & cracklins I laugh.

As bad as Louisiana is, at least we don't have snake handlers.

Not sure what that even means but alright. I just don’t believe Louisiana is worse or better than Alabama as a state. They both offer pros and cons. People shite on states equal to ours it’s silly.

I’ve lived in quite a few cities, large and small.
By and large, I do the same things in all cities ... I eat, I work, I drink with friends, I frick, and I sleep.
IMO people get too hung up on good cities and bad cities... they’re all pretty much the same and I do the same stuff in all.
Whether you have 2 restaurants or 100 restaurants to choose from, you’re going to find the places that you like. Whether you have 2 people or 1000 people to find as friends, you’re going to find the people that you like. Whether you have 2 job opportunities or 100, you’re going to find a good place to work.
