Yes.
I actually don't prefer shell, but I have 3 shell pairs of Alden and 1 Carmina.

I see people wearing brown shoes with blue suits that should be wearing them.

Yes, will cost you a lot but also last decades if taken care of properly. While some may say that it makes financial sense to buy a $800 shoe and divide that out over 20 years, the cost of resole every 3ish years ($120+) wrecks that math.
If you are into shoes, they are absolutely beautiful and the hand crafting or semi-hand crafting aspect is really cool. However, one can step down 20% in price and still have very nice semi-handmade shoes made from Chromexcel or scotch grain.
I used to live near the Horween tannery in Chicago, it's very low key. You would have no idea it's there if you weren't into shoes or such. It's a dumpy building in the former industrial corridor just across from Lincoln Park.

Chromexcel is really good leather too and deals with moisture and sweat well for use in watch straps for example. The biggest issue is it doesn't resist wrinkling and creasing as well as the shell of the horse as Chromexel uses the whole hide. The lack of wringing is one of the big reasons shell is so good for shoes especially the area right behind the toe box. The shell is so small maybe a square foot on each side of the hide it can't be used for items like belts for example.

Yep, three pairs. They last and look good. Mine are Aldens.

I've got several pair of cxl boots. Very comfortable although one of them scratches easily. Saphir mahogany rubbed in and left to dry overnight usually fixes them.

I've never been able to pull the trigger. It looks too plasticky to me, almost like cheap shoes from the department store with plastic-coated "genuine leather". If I ever get shell Cordovan it will be a pair of brown wingtip Horween shell Cordovan boots from Allen Edmonds or Alden.

I recently bought a pair of shell cordovan steel toe boots for work. I've been keeping them upside down between the bed and cab of my F250.

Agreed that the Alden #8 treatment looks artificial out of the box. But they develop an amazing patina after 12-18 months of wearing 1x/week. Much better than calf. I basically only wear calf for business now if it calls for black shoes.

Hell, you can't even buy them in Jackson. I'd have to go out of state to actually see some.
