I was grilling on a charcoal grill once and had a recently filled tank a few feet away on a patio. It was hot and the tank started releasing out of the relief value. Never seen that before and got nervous with the open fire so close. I guess the tank was over filled?

When a fluid is heated the molecules move faster and in turn the pressure in the tank is increased. Depending on hot it gets will determine if the pressure exceeds the relief valve’s set point. It doesn’t mean that the tank was overfilled.

I keep them in an enclosed garage.

Until now, I've not heard of any issues with it.

What’s the issue? My extra is in my garage but it’s like 50ft and several walls between it and bedrooms. If it exploded I can’t imagine it would do damage that far away.

I’m more concerned about the one hooked up to my grill in the heat next to my glass back patio doors.

Is the issue that it could leak propane into the house? I dk, I have an automatic garage door, it’s not air tight, I think the gas would just go out into the neighborhood. 20lbs propane tank, even if it somehow leaked the hole tank, I don’t think anyone would even notice???

I usually have between 4 and 6 in my shed. I do keep empties in the garage in case I'm running an errand to place that refills them so I don't forget.

I keep mine in the middle of the road. Max distance from structures so max safety, right?
