Does an employer have any liability if your vehicle is broken into in their parking lot

Last night, someone tried to break into my son's truck while it was in the parking lot at his work. When he got to his truck to leave for the night he found the door handle was almost pried off the door.
Does an employer have any liability in this situation? I'm not sure what the security situation is at this location but I'm trying to find out.

Doubt it.

you'd have to prove an immense amount of negligence IMO.

Yes, it's on their property. Therefore it was in their Care/Custody/Control.

Lol, no.
That's what insurance is for.

So a company gives your son a job and some idiot tries to break into his vehicle. Now you want to make the company liable for something they have no control over. You are exactly what's wrong with America.

He asked a simple question.
The answer is yes. Is it worth going after the company? More than likely not.

We had a situation where cars were being broke into on a regular basis in our parking garage a while back. The employer wasn't liable, but did pay for extra security for a period of time out of good faith and safety to their employees.
FWIW, most of the time the employer is not the owner or maintainer of wherever you park. Prob building management.

quote:Yeah, me trying to find some facts is exactly what's wrong with this country. Not the pants-sagging democrat that busted up my son's truck trying to take what my son earned because he's not getting a job anytime soon.

Nope and odds are they have a sign up that states "not responsible for blah blah blah"
Your vehicle insurance is responsible (if you have full coverage)

Not unless they voluntarily accept responsibility...in which case, they would likely have a secured parking area.
