But a lawsuit has now led to one losing its name, and it’s the one who’s had it the longest.

The original location, which opened 27 years ago, is now re-branding itself as “Charlie’s Creole Kitchen”.

quote:

In an e-mail, the company, “Dodie’s Reef”, wrote, “It clearly works best for both businesses to have stronger “separate” identities… We wish (Charlie McGuiness) only the best in his new venture.”

It ended the statement – “There is only one Dodie’s.”

Not a F&D Board thread, as this isn't about the food. I know that Dodie's Reef is a very popular LSU hangout in Dallas, but I'd urge everyone to reconsider watching games there. It wouldn't bother me so much, but the group who owns it now, which are out of Austin, are being real assholes about the name change. I understand why they want it, but let it go, ending their statement like they did above and then posting on their FB that theyre the only real Dodie's, when they're really just Austin posers bothers me.

Hopefully you Dallas OTers will think twice about giving these assholes your business.

So the original owners son opened a second Dodies 10 blocks away and went bankrupt so he sold the restaurant and the trademark name?

Yes. It looked like he was forced to sell the trademark as part of the bankruptcy proceedings.

We have a female relative that moved to Dallas years ago for her first job after graduating from LSU. We would take her to Dodie's every now and then. She met Chris and you could tell he was interested in her. Charlie told my wife and me to keep her away from Chris. He implied that Chris' intentions weren't good. It turns out she was interested in someone else and all ended well.

Hate to hear that - a couple of us are having lunch at the original location next week when I'm in town.

Stan's is a UF bar, and manage their tv's on game day terribly.

I feel bad for the original owner but Dodies Reed has every right to the name, they should've just handled better

Also it's far and away the best place to watch the game in Dallas so I'm still going

I prefer watching at home anyway.

ETA: I understand they have the rights to the name, but they obviously didn't buy any class when they bought Dodie's.

Depends, I have a small group of people that truly care about the game so it's nice to go watch it at Dodies with them.
I've gone with other groups before and they're more interested in the party which makes it difficult to pay attention, that sucks unless it's some shite team we are blowing out

Done. Eastwood's Bar on McKinney will be hosting LSU watch parties this year.
