I didn’t drink much before but once I found out about some issues of my own I quit drinking altogether. Alcohol stresses the heart and there’s just no reason to make an existing problem worse by drinking. You’re doing the right thing.

So no HBP, no enlarged heart? No hypertension just sleep apnea and you're being told not to drink?
Maybe an overreaching doctor.

I have a Bicuspid Aortic Valve. My ascending aorta is mildly enlarged due to this. I’ve been told the same.
Not a drop since 7/1. Have only missed it once. Fantasy Football draft.
I can have one or two VERY occasionally. But I want to wait until all tolerance is gone. Maybe I’ll feel I got my moneys worth.
Probably wait til holidays. Or maybe that first awesome day outside in October. You know. One of those 9 awesome weather days we get per year.

I've been sober just under 3.5 years, but I was a raging binge drinking alcoholic before I quit. AA has helped me to turn my life around because without it I'm sure I'd either be dead, I'd have killed someone, or I'd be in jail. I've been doing zoom meetings for the last two years since the covid breakout shut down all of the meetings and having to stay out of crowds because of chemo and such. Give it a whirl if you're interested in support in quitting.

Listen to all these posters. I just helped get my brother in rehab. He had a seizure yesterday while in withdraw at rehab and he fell and hit his head causing a subdural hematoma. The sad part is alcoholics do not have great livers. This means less platelets to stop things like a brain bleed or the fact his tongue looks like a cow tongue which he had to intubated because they did not want it to swell so much that it closed his trachea. We see neurology today after they do a morning ct scan to see if it has stoped bleeding.

I'm starting day 10 being sober; I'm in my late 50's and have had several drinks per day for 15 years (all types of alcohol.) I drank heavily on weekends and while watching ball games or golfing. Blacked out on occasion. Risked losing my family if I didn't change.
Realizing it's only day 10, but I can already tell such a huge difference. I feel physically better and my mind is clearing. My outlook is more positive and I actually look forward to getting out of bed each day.
One day at a time brother.

What medical school did you attend?
The one that taught me 6'250 is fat as frick.
Pretty sure I dint need to go to medical school to understand basic concepts like Sarcopenia either.
And scaropenia falls into training muscles which falls under the multiple certifications I have.
What school did you attend that made you a dumbass?

Maybe an overreaching doctor.
Or maybe, just maybe a proactive doctor
Dude is 60 lbs overweight minimum. Has sleep apnea......he is walking billboard for heart attack. The alcohol makes the apnea worse.
Why do yall act like it's such no big deal for the doctor to tell you are fat and need to stop drinking? It's fricking sad you have to be told that at all, but ifnthe doctor is telling you.....should prolly listen.

Find a new doctor then? But being fat didn't mean he is wrong, just means he is weak at can't do what he knows needs to be done. Same as most posters here.

Mine told me the same thing once. I respected his request; after all- it was his office.

Without me this would be one big circle jerk telling each other you don't have sleep apnea because your 75 lbs overweight. I am the needle.
