Possibly worse than that, if possible.
The Male Doctor interviewed for a non-paying volunteer job. This was after he got a diagnosis of incurable cancer.
With his name, he might be from a culture that has (ahem) historically undervalued women's lives (as in every day, not just the assassination of their president).
Did he want access to potentially lethal drugs? Why a children specific practice? How did the four people in the practice escape? And perhaps the worst question....if the swat team had moved in faster, not waited the hours without any response, could the outcome for either or both doctors have been different?

The daughter was beautiful and looked just like her mother. I was close to Chaney Joseph at the law school and he had the greatest respect for her mother.

Dang apparently my parents are close friends with some of her family. They are devastated

Terrible, terrible news.
Her mother, Katie Sphat was a professor of mine at LSU law school in the early 1980's. I had her for several classes, including family law and civil code obligations (second semester freshman contracts). She was one of the foremost legal scholars at the time and an excellent but tough teacher. You always had to be well prepared for her class, because if you weren't and she called on you, it could be a very humbling experience. She was a nice lady at heart, but she clearly enjoyed her reputation as being tough in the classroom.
My prayers go out to the Sphat family.

I have a 2 year old daughter and this was our pediatrician.
Let me tell you - she was a wonderful person and an incredible doctor. It’s an extremely heartbreaking situation and I struggle to imagine the pain her family must be dealing with.
If you’d like, below is a link for a go fund me to the practice she as a partner in, which I assume will help them and/or the family in some way.
She was a proud LSU Alum. We always chatted and connected over that during our visits.

Yes.. His name is Bharat Narumanchi. He was recently diagnosed with cancer and was given weeks to live.
He applied for a job there and didn't get it. Its sad that she had to be a victim of this situation. Everyday everyone wakes up and goes about their day not knowing what will happen and just like that.. Something like this can happen. I really do hate to hear these things.

She was gone before I got there, but we still read several of her articles and she was apparently a well liked/respected expert in family law etc.

Professor Spaht fussed at me for eating too many chicken tenders at a party she hosted for her students back in 2003.

The perp had come from California.
From the Daily Mail, a question is suggested. In how many states does the average Dr. have a license to practice ? This one was licensed in at least four, non-contiguous states.
This story says the perp is "of Indian-Origin.

Narumanchi completed his pediatric residency training at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, the Austin American Statesman reported.
He had attended St George's University School of Medicine in Grenada.
In 2012, Narumanchi was charged with domestic abuse in Hawaii, during a contentious divorce battle, but the case was later dismissed, court records show.
It was unclear why he was in Texas, although the paper said he appeared to have relatives in the area.

quote:his work history and mediations
Police said Narumanchi previously worked as a pediatrician. Online records show he went to medical school at St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, where he graduated from in 2008. Following graduation, Narumanchi worked for a year and a half at St. Vincent’s Catholic Medical Center in New York City. He was terminated in December 2009, but filed a grievance over his termination. Both sides initially agreed to arbitration, but Narumanchi later rejected a proposed settlement, according to federal court records.
St. Vincent’s filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2010, and Narumanchi submitted a claim for $24,700 to the bankruptcy court but later revised the claim to $1,524, according to federal court records.
He did a pediatric residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii and worked in California and Florida. He was issued a California medical license in 2012. That “physician and surgeon A” license would be valid until August 2022. The address of record on his California license comes back to a Los Angeles area medical group, according to the California Medical Board.
Hawaii court records show Narumanchi filed for divorce from his ex-wife in 2012, and the two had joint custody of a daughter. Those divorce records connect Narumanchi to a north Austin home, where individuals with the same last name live. He is not listed as one of the owners.
He was turned down for the volunteer role at Children’s Medical Group, according to police.
