I've been told pure bloods don't use any products made by a pharmaceutical company since they will kill you.

Many people are duped into thinking rubbing chemicals into your skin is better for you than the sun that has existed for all of humanity.
I could also argue that never in history have so many people lived outside of their naturally evolved region of Earth. There's a reason skin tones evolved differently based on the regions sun exposure.
White arse Northern Europeans aren't equipped to sit out in full sun all day near the equator.
While I agree many mass produced sunscreens are toxic, the argument that "the sun has existed for all humanity therefore its fine for everybody " is kind of shortsighted.

Yes. I'm a dude in my 40s and have been wearing moisturizer with SPF daily for 20 years. A friend asked me last week how do I not age. I guess it's helped some.

I've used sunscreen everyday on my face and neck for the last 20 years. That was when a dermatologist removed, what was described as, "pre-cancerous" lesions from my left ear. I was told if I didn't get dedicated to wearing sunscreen and a wide brimmed hat that it was a matter of when, rather than if, I would develop melanoma. Since I work outside on a daily basis, often from dawn until dusk, I decided it was a good idea to follow recommendations.

I do not. The sun definitely beats you up though. Just go look at any coonass who's lived his life on the water. By the time they're 60 they have alligator skin.
I know a woman who has used sun screen daily most of her life, and she's 60ish years old now and looks incredibly good. She said that's why women used to wear big hats everywhere.

Sunscreen causes the bad cancers, whereas too much sun if it causes cancers are usually the non-lethal kind that can simply be lopped off.
Kind of surprised to see multiple people stating this in this thread. Hadn't realized people were claiming this until very recently.

I think it is marketing more than anything. I have two daughters who buy a LOT of skincare products. It seems like 75% of the products tout some sort of “SPF”. Face moisturizers, body lotion, lip balm, etc. The only time they ever wear lotion specifically labeled as “sunscreen” is at the beach or pool.
No different than men’s “outdoor” clothes that market “spf” properties…like a Columbia fishing shirt. No shite it “blocks” the sun. It’s a fricking long sleeve shirt. It’s not like it’s made with sunscreen lotion woven it. It has the same “spf” properties as a dress shirt…or blue jeans. But, because it is marketed for an outdoor activity, fishing, the company markets it as if it has some sort of special sunscreen protection different from any other shirt

This is 100% true for most days when you are just getting low levels of sun exposure. Putting on sun screen every single day no matter what is completely insane But if you are spending all day out in the sun good luck with that
I rather pure sun than spraying or rubbing carcinogens on my skin when in the sun.

Is this an example of evolving with the scientific literature or people simply being overzealous?
It is a big scam by big medical and pharmaceutical sun screen manufacturers. I believe that song Everybody's Free by Baz Luhrmann was paid for by pharmaceutical manufacturers for the lines:
quote:
Ladies and gentlemen of the class of '99
Wear sunscreen
If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it
A long-term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists

In Louisiana? I throw some on my face and neck if I am going to be doing a lot of yard work. Out West, I wear it every day. Louisiana sun has nothing on mountain sun where it comes to baking your skin.

I have rosacea, so yes. It helps to wear sunscreen on my cheeks, forehead, and chin so they don’t look like I just ran a marathon after a gallon of booze.
Ivermectin cures rosacea. Ingest and apply on skin.

To the person that posted he would rather have skin cancer, my response is, having the surgeon cut on me 7 times before he got clear margins wore on my nerves !!!
First cut at 8:15 and cut #7 at 2:45
Stitched up by 3:30 and I could not get out of there fast enough.
Pass me the sunscreen please !!!!

Going in on the 15th to have a basal cell removed on my shoulder. My second. I haven't exposed my shoulder to sun in many decades. Skin cancer will get you people in time. And I mostly use sunscreen in my daily regimen. I also use 5% fluorouracel every year now.
