Fertility awareness methods, particularly Symptothermal, Billings, and even the Two-Day Method are highly effective when used properly. Their failure rates are generally as low as the other ones that require ongoing effort from the user (basically excluding the injectable, implantable, semi-permanent insertables, and the “permannet” procedures).

One of them, I think it’s the Billings Method, even has publications on how effective the method of teaching it to those who will be using it works.

The pure “Calendar Method” hasn’t really been endorsed or taught for a few decades, including by the Catholic Church. Many of the symptoms based methods do require “plotting” or “charting” on a calendar, though.


Just felt like it was an important point to make.
