After the Presidential alert I have seen several people state something along the line of "I didn't get the alert but I have Amber Alerts turned off so maybe that's why". I guess they can become annoying but I always leave it on, just in case I happen to be driving down the road when it goes off and the car next to me is the exact one they are describing. Do y'all leave it on or off? Any reasons besides it being annoying?

You're not supposed to touch your phone or something while you drive. Yes, you could call in if the car next to you is the one they're describing but you'd be breaking the law. Two wrongs don't make a right.

i have all alerts turned off and i still got the alert, those who didnt get an alert just have crappy phone service providers and/or crappy phones

the alerts are a national warning alert, you cannot "opt out" or turn those off, if you could, then that the whole point of having them

You do realize that an Amber Alert is an alert about a missing, likely abducted, child?

So you're saying that if you had a strong indication that the car on the road next to you was involved in kidnapping a child, you wouldn't call that in for fear of breaking the no cell phone use while driving law??

I have everything turned off... All they do is startle the shite out of me.

You know I'm 25 pounds overweight, I don't need a blast to the ticker like that!

You do realize I wasn't being serious?

Obviously not, please realize this now.

I turned them off after I got two of them one Tuesday night at 3am.

My wife leaves them on so it really had no effect .

Same here. Turned off severe weather alerts for the same reason. I still got the presidential alert today though.

I'd keep Amber Alerts turned on if there was an option to mute the noise and just have the alert notification show up on the screen.

That'll turn off Amber and Local Weather/Emergency Alerts.

But this came from FEMA over something different. I have those turned off and got the Presidential Alert.

ETA: I care about chirrens but I get them over WBRZ notifications.

Anybody remember the Auburn game in Tiger Stadium in 2015? There was an amber alert in like the second quarter, and I remember looking up and everybody was either pulling their phones out of their pockets, or looking at them to see what was notifying them

This topic totally reminded me of that

That isn’t why. You can’t opt out of these alerts.

Obviously having Amber alerts off will not stop you from receiving the presidential alert. That's not even the point of the thread.
