Disregarding the fact that humans are Great Apes, the other members of the family are successful species, and, unless something drastically changes, they will remain so. An "evolved" chimp is no longer a chimp. It is a new species that will either co-exist or push the other species out. Evolution isn't linear.

There are apes that make tools, and teach their kids to do it too. Chimps and orangutans. They’re very simple, termite probes, or specific rocks to crack nuts.

Does that mean they’ll get to the Stone Age? Who the heck knows…..?

We've already addressed this in the thread.

In normal, everyday parlance "Great Ape" is used to refer to chimps, Gorillas and Orangutan... You already knew this though.

It's called linguistic nuance.

It’s called using terminology incorrectly. You already knew that though.

This is a nonsensical rebuttal.

Goes to show you are putting your faith into something, because you are assuming that someone that doesn’t believe in evolution believes the Bible, as if you mad a binary choice in what to believe or otherwise put your faith in. Worse yet, there is plenty of evidence that both exist.

Didn't read rest of thread until after posting.

The nuance is that prior to evolving, humans were exactly what you say great apes are. If the great ape evovles, they are no longer a great ape.

But you knew that....hopefully.

So, humans are a great ape that evolved past the level that the other members are currently at, but we are still considered a great ape.

However, if the other members evolve past their current state they will no longer be considered great apes.

Sound logic.

It is called evolution. You know, evolve past that which you currently are.

Is adherence to evolution faith? You’re equating it to that.

If a great white evolved to have a third dorsal fin is it no longer part of the Chondrichthyes family?

Regardless, I blame myself. I should have been aware that message boards like to latch on to typos or other small things even if the point is getting across clearly.

I should have used "advance" instead of "evolve". I also should have put a disclaimer in the original OP.

I derailed my own thread inadvertently.
