You realize coyotes, especially in groups, are very dangerous to domestic animals right?
Coyotes are ONLY dangerous if they are in large groups. Those scrawny little shits get run off unless they have friends
You should be afraid of Pitbulls..way worse

I think it’s because of all the development, they’re forced into concentrated wooded areas, lots to eat and not much threat, deer and bobcats here are huge too

My dogs don’t even look up when yotes start howling.
But the bobcat that was in my yard a few nights ago scared the shite out of them. Gotta admit, His screeching from my pasture gave me chills too.

I have never had a dog that would act scared when they howl. I have had more that would rather fight one then run from one. I think they view them as wild animals and not as another dog.

The ones I’ve seen were also not scrawny. I remember driving down a gravel road one time and saw one that was about the size of a fawn/1-year deer.
I’ve also seen coyote kills around my area where the group killed a moderate/small sized doe. Nothing huge, but definitely something around 100 lbs.
In groups they will absolutely frick up a single mid sized dog. Alone, they don’t want to risk getting hurt fighting something the size of a golden or full grown lab.
An injury means death to them so they’d rather run and stay alive.

What kind of dog do you have that acts weird at the sound of a coyote? Some overbred toy dog I'm assuming.
Get an alpha male dog and it won't feel that way.

maybe. My dog (black lab) and I saw a coyote pacing us about 40’ from walking trail near my house about a month ago. Not a huge deal. Just a little creepy until I figured out that it was a coyote in the woods and not a person.
But since then, my dog has not wanted to leave the pavement of the walking trail in that area. She’s usually all about stopping and sniffing everything she can. Now she hangs out very close to me and is constantly checking the tree line from the trail.
We head groups or coyotes squealing sometimes near our house. I make sure my dog is inside when that happens.

It's not a good sound

If your dog is of any size, coyotes aren't that dangerous.
A lone coyote isn’t that big of a deal for a lab, German Shepard, or even a Goldie.
Often coyotes are in groups. Which can be a problem for almost all domesticated pets that can’t scale a tree quickly.

They only get to around 50lbs. They are not large. What you saw was probably just a wild dog

I got a 70 lb GoldenDoodle who is scared of his own shadow or so I thought. I had a dog come in our yard and barked at one of my grandsons. My dog came out him teeth showing growling, I’ve never seen him like that. That dog took off tail between his legs .Damn proud to know if it’s go time he’s got our back

Think he meant the kill was around 100 lbs.
