I always laugh at theses cargo shorts threads that seem to pop up every once in a while. I don’t get the fascination with the subject. These threads always end up being 10 pages long.

This and some job interviews is about the only time I wear one. Most people we interview don't even wear a full suit so maybe that's not even required anymore.

I gained so much weight in quarantine that the only pair of shorts that are still comfortable are my old cargo shorts from hs (I was fat in hs...and now, apparently)

Shorts with layers of extra heat trapping fabric and several deep pockets that, if filled to anything close to capacity, will become nearly unwearable are impractical, yes.
They are also ugly.
