I haven’t used a road atlas in many years. However, I still keep one in my truck for emergencies. Sometimes, GPS just goes to shite for no reason, and I wouldn’t want to depend on it in an emergency.

That reminds me….I should probably try to find an updated version.

I keep one in the car on road trips as a backup . Wife also likes to mark what highways we've previously traveled on. It's also been handy for rerouting during traffic jams.

Back in the stone age I got Triptik planners from AAA that were basically the maps I needed for each trip.

I had one for years but with the advent of GPS I finally just chucked it. They are really interesting to look at though.

I have one in my car in the event my phone is lost, dies, or GPS is out. I have never opened it, but it stays with me.

No, but I really like looking at maps.

I love topographical maps. The Delorme gazetteers are great, I have one for most states.

Not anymore but when I was a kid and we went on long driving vacations I was the atlas jockey. Helped me get really good at geography. Read that fricker cover to cover.

Same here. I'd read that atlas the whole trip. My game was to pick two random cities and then try to quickest route. No wonder kids these days have no problem solving skills.

I loved to use those 'state' atlas books, like:

The Roads of Texas
The Roads of Louisiana
The Roads of Arkansas

Still have them, and would use them again if I made a road trip. Allowed me to take all sorts of isolated farm roads and explore around, without getting mired in circles. Before those books, I would sometimes be driving on roads that gradually became unpaved or shell roads, then became dirt roads, and then came to dead-ends.

Used to be that most state rest areas had maps int he bathroom building.

Yes, truckers atlas has lists of low bridges and weight restricted routes. The maps part is useful as well with trying to figure out truck routes to strange locations in the rural northeast and mountain areas off the interstates.
