I'm not 50 yet, nor am I particularly close. I'll tune into W&J probably once or twice a week.
Somebody else said he stopped listening when they moved to Houston- that makes sense to me. The show just sounded different after the move, and it took me a while to warm up to it again.
Walton was a classic "straight man" in the mold of Johnny Carson. He'd be almost impossible to replace. Kenny does his own thing and it works well enough to keep me listening.

I still enjoy it. Kenny is growing on me. My only complaint is how at least once a show he’ll start off on a story, then a minor detail from the story or comment from Johnson will get him off track and going on a tangent about that and next thing you know they have to go to commercial and you never hear the end of the original story he started telling/reporting.

Not for a while now. They went from being all about humor to being all about politics when Obama went in office. I was still sad to hear John had passed. I'm sure the show still has its moments, but the constant negativity over politics wore me down.

Yes and Kenny is getting better for sure. Now John was in a league of his own for radio presence and adding his insight on topics. Been listening since they started why stop!

Not since high school/early college in the late 90s.
I've caught parts of their show here and there over the years, and it's still exactly the same as it was 25 years ago, only now they bitch more about mexicans then blacks since they moved to Houston. I don't believe I've listened to more than a few seconds of it since JW died though. I just hardly ever listen to the actual radio anymore.

Did Kenny lighten it back up?
Kenny might be even more political than what John had become.
I can say even with John, I definitely started listening less during the Obama years because at times I just wanted a break from the hyper-political nature of our society.
That's not to say I didn't appreciate what they were trying to do to be that voice, but I just couldn't take it all morning every morning. During the Bush Presidency, they did a really good job of keeping it balanced. You could tell leading up to the Iraq War (which they both supported us going in and taking out Saddam), they were injecting a bit more politics into the show, but 9/11 had happened, and I think they felt the need to point out certain things that other radio personalities (other than your true talk radio guys) didn't want to say. It was like they were trying to educate some of the segment that wasn't going to tune into Rush/Hannity, but at the same time, still have the Friday wacky tunes and old Amos telling his fireside stories.
Post 2008 got much heavier on the political front.

Walton’s Obama impersonation during 2010-2012 was so good!
Posted on 6/11/21 at 7:55 am to bdavids09
i used to listen to them years ago until they started saying obama every other word.

Obama Derangement Syndrome was a real phenomenon just like TDS.
I don't agree with Obama on much, but I thought his election was a nice "frick you" to the Rumsfeld / Cheney / Bush cabal. Sometimes what's necessary isn't a careful analysis of the issues, it's a "frick you" to the biggest crook in the room, and that was true in 2008.

Did they ever say what Waltons illness was?
Posted on 6/11/21 at 8:09 am to randybobandy
I remember listening to them as the ‘Q Crew’ on Q93.

I mean if I'm gonna listen to any radio show, I would prefer it to be racist.

This.
I think Kenny is good at what he does, and I think he pairs well with Johnson... but the show gets waaaaay too political considering the time slot. I don't want hard political attacks at 7 am (even if I agree with most of them).

Chip Chipperson is the best thing on the radio today. Dudes been doing this since he was 18 and is phenomenal.

Producer Kenny was/is one of the main writers of the show.He also worked for Michael Berry. I loved listening to John Walton but the Damn Cancer got him. I miss him. The show is just as good today and sometimes better. I also miss Rush very much.
Another very good radio show is the John Clay Wolfe show. He has expanded his market and a unfortunate result of this is that he had to tone his show down as to not offend certain radio markets.
