I wake up a few times always after dreaming but usually go right back to sleep in under 10 mins. Think it’s just the sleep cycles and I wake easy in the shallower stages of sleep.

Yeah. The older I get the less straight sleep I get, particularly if I don't have to work the next day.

What I guess is unique from talking to others - I never dream. Or at least remember them. Maybe one a year.

Otherwise it's eyes closed, maybe wake up to pee, eyes open, next day starts with no dreams overnight.

75% of the time I just wake up at 3:20 and don't go back to sleep. Just play on my phone, read news, take a shower, etc. But at least two nights a week I sleep through the night 10:30pm to 5am.

I guess if I didn't get up at 4:55am I'd go back to sleep after I wake up at 3am but its not worth it....ends up being only an extra 45min of sleep by time I get back to sleep.

I only sleep in two phases because I'm currently kennel training a puppy, and she only makes it till 2a-3a until she starts whining for the bathroom. I could sleep all night otherwise.

I used to wake up in the middle of the night because I have to pee/get too hot/whatever but ever since I started taking a magnesium supplement at night, I sleep through the night with no issues.

I don't think so. I've never been overweight, and I've been told it's rare that I snore. It's not that I drag throughout the day. I have energy. It's just that the startup process to come online after I wake up seems to take a while for me.

I will wake up anywhere from 3-4:30 to piss. Maybe once every other week I'll just stay awake. Take an afternoon nap that day.

Same, and it doesn't give me the weird dreams and morning tiredness that melatonin does. Also, as I've gotten older, alcohol is not my friend when it comes to sleep. If I drink at night, I'll wake up hot at 3 AM, like clockwork.

I have not slept an entire night in probably 20 years. I fall asleep for about 3 hours, wake up, can’t sleep, finally fall back to sleep for about 2 hours. I guess I am a biphasic sleeper. I just always thought it is because I have so much on my mind.

Being the provider of the family, when I lay down at night is when my mind races the most when it comes to finances, safety, and general well being of my family so it leads to not sleeping.

Or at least I thought. But according to the OP I guess I’m just a medieval bad arse that wants to hunt, have sex, and sharpen my ax at 2 in the morning.

Sounds nice. Middle of the night is when my anxiety comes out in full force. Completely unmitigated and irrational anxiety. Usually when I'm up at 3 am, and it is not uncommon, I'm done. I might as well make some coffee and start the day. Laying in bed thinking about all of life's worst-case scenerios won't lull me back to sleep.

This only started happening when I was in my 40's. I used to be able to sleep for 14 hours if given the opportunity.

Not anymore..there is always a pee time around 4 in the morning. Sometimes I go right back to sleep and other times I am awake for 2 hours to get back to sleep. I am retired but still feel guilty about sleeping in too late.

Exactly. It makes me a little sleepy which helps fall asleep and then the next thing I know, my alarm is going off (if I sleep until my alarm)

I take the standard Magnesium in 400mg form. Nothing special. My grocery store usually sells them buy one get one free.

Its the one that says it supports nerve, heart and bone health on the bottle. It also acts as a muscle relaxer, which is why I started taking it in the first place.

don't get me started. 59 y/o. rarely sleeps through the night. the only chance I have is to be really dehydrated so bladder won't wake me up at 5:00 to 6:00. or take low dose antihistamine .
I also dream way, way too much. It's gotten out of hand last few yrs. Maybe that's a cause or a symptom of poor sleep.

that's the thing, If I get up around 2-ish, no problem getting back to sleep. 5-ish? no such luck.

I have noticed that I used to drink 40oz of water, and it'd seemingly come out an hour later. Now, it's more like three hours later, so whatever I drank at dinner (blue plate special timing, 6pm), waits to come out until 10pm, after I've been asleep for 90m.

As for the dreams, while it doesn't seem like it when you're in it, you can pack in a Lord of the Rings movie in your head into what is really 15m in reality.

Try taking 300-400 mg of magnesium glycinate before bed. It helps my husband stay asleep throughout the night. We get Doctor's Best.

We have a 3 month old so I don't get that luxury.

Always slept one long 7-8 hour stretch. As I have gotten older I wake up after 4-5 hours, take a leak, then head straight to bed for the next 2 hours. So, my sleep is basically a long stretch with a 2 min break.
